Can't contact AWACS when flying the F-5?

So i was flying on multiplayer, and i tuned in on the AWACS's frequency only to be able to listen to the AWACS but not be able to contact AWACS??? am i missing something???

It's hard to listen to AWACS if they're no longer flying...
