fitness88 Posted April 25, 2017 Author Posted April 25, 2017 You can't do that, large needle is waypoint/tacan/offset tacan, thin needle is for VOR. You can't use large needle for ILS. In most aircraft's HSI you have the small needle pointing directly at the airfield or waypoint and the bigger needle giving you flight path for approach to that airfield or waypoint. If both the thin and big needles are your direct flight line to waypoint/tacan/offset tacan and for VOR, what gives you your flight path to alignment for approach. HSI has always done that for most planes. The Mirage M2000-C has an electronic synthetic airfield display that you can work with but what if the electronics go down, the HSI has always been the backup.
CrashO Posted April 25, 2017 Posted April 25, 2017 but what if the electronics go down Then your royally dead , the mirage is 100% FlyByWire :D But the instrument you are looking for is the ADI (the horizon-ball-thingy below your radio freq displays / top right above your altimeter). It shows a vertical bar for the localizer and the horizontal one for the glideslope.
myHelljumper Posted April 25, 2017 Posted April 25, 2017 The Mirage does not have a HSI, in fact it's a IDN (indicateur de navigation, navigation indicator). The M2000C IDN can't be used with ILS. Large needle : BUT/BAD/TACAN/VAD/BO Thin needle : VOR For ILS : ADI The manual describe how the IDN work page 103, ADI page 63. fitness88 Posted April 26, 2017 Author Posted April 26, 2017 Thanks to both of you. Interesting differences to say the least

myHelljumper Posted April 26, 2017 Posted April 26, 2017 It's an error, in the real manual it's called IDN. Helljumper - M2000C Guru Helljumper's Youtube https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCK3rTjezLUxPbWHvJJ3W2fA
fitness88 Posted April 26, 2017 Author Posted April 26, 2017 It's an error, in the real manual it's called IDN. Thanks for clarifying. It's taking a lot of reading and testing to figure this one out, interesting how the manual says how user friendly it is, I guess only once I get it figured out.
Azrayen Posted April 26, 2017 Posted April 26, 2017 Well IDN is a French acronym. HSI an English one. Not exactly the same way of doing things, but close enough to use the same name IMO.
