paskozool Posted December 2, 2006 Posted December 2, 2006 I've been looking for aircraft videos shot in HD 1080 on google, patrick's aviation website and other stuff and I can't seem to find any. Are there any movies like that ? Documentaries ? whatever. Thanks
britgliderpilot Posted December 2, 2006 Posted December 2, 2006 I'm not particularly up on HDTV, but as far as I understand it, all it is is TV at a higher resolution than normal. Wikipedia says 1080 is 1920x1080 resolution - which is rather a lot of pixels. You won't find that high a resolution on Youtube or Google video because it'd make the resulting video file enormous - as well as a high pixel count to display it you'd need some serious bandwidth to get the file in the first place ;) Youtube and Google take the video that comes in and compress it into Flash movies, which takes out even more detail. You're not going to find movies of that kind of resolution on the net. In fact since it's higher resolution than the PAL and NTSC formats that go onto DVD, I'm not sure there's been a call for digitising video to that level before HDTV came out . . . . would you have to re-record it from the original films? Now then - be honest - is this just an "I've got an HDTV!" showoff thread? ;) http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v121/britgliderpilot/BS2Britgliderpilot-1.jpg
Guest IguanaKing Posted December 2, 2006 Posted December 2, 2006 Well...I've seen 1080i HD vids of the Javelin's test flights, but I'm still waiting for the actual files to be released to me...and that may never happen.
yamangman Posted December 2, 2006 Posted December 2, 2006 Didn't think they even had colour film at the time of the Javelin.
Guest IguanaKing Posted December 2, 2006 Posted December 2, 2006 Doh!!! I meant the ATG Javelin Mk10. :D
paskozool Posted December 2, 2006 Author Posted December 2, 2006 Came across this one : http://www.fighterpilotfilm.com/ They sell it on amazon.

Guest IguanaKing Posted December 2, 2006 Posted December 2, 2006 Me too. :D As long as you don't mind a whole lot of hollywood and very little actual military procedure, its actually a great, visually stunning masterpiece with lots of good RL aircraft video.
ALDEGA Posted December 2, 2006 Posted December 2, 2006 There are two samples with fighter aircraft on www.wmvhd.com. (F-15C with F-16 agressor and "Blue Angels")
