Create Awacs with escort

I'd like to create a Awacs and let it infinite orbit. The Awacs should be escorted by 2 MiG-21.

 

Awacs unit works fine but how can I create the escort squadron?

Must they also orbit or is it enough to assign escort Awacs task?

 

My problem is that after couple of Minutes the Migs are flying away and outside of the area

from my experience the escort task is a bit buggy and lacks some features (f.e. "last waypoint" feature, that is available with the "follow" task.)

 

escort fighters f.e. will RTN after the last waypoint of the main flight, that was present when escort task was set.

I think escorts will also always end the task, if main flight has a switch waypoint and falls back to previous waypoint.

 

A workaround would be, to assign multiple escort task to the escort, so if they feel like going home, they trigger the next task and go back into formation.

 

Another workaround would be, not to loop the awacs, but putting many, many, many waypoints, instead of switch waypoint.

 

Escort are also prone to RTN, when they get spooked by SAM, so setting "reaction to threat" might help.

if you give the escort theirs own orbit task, they won't actively "escort" at the same time. but you could probably combine a orbit task with a CAP "search then engage in zone" and have the zone at the centre of the awacs and migs orbit. with that awacs and migs won't orbit in formation though.
