Charlie_01 Posted May 19, 2017 Posted May 19, 2017 (edited) Hello folks, I need to create a custom canopy skin using Gimp, but I'm not able to maintain the transparency as I try to export the layered .xcf file to the .bmp one (before to convert the latter into the final .dds skin). The .bmp file I can make looks as the attached so the final .dds file does the same. Anyway I saw a lot of custom skins out there containing files of transparent canopy so there should be a way to do that... Is there someone can help me with this? :helpsmilie: Thx in advance. P.S. Sorry for the inaccurate header: at first I was thinking to ask about a different but related issue. So the answer for the asked one should be useful to make empty transparent skin too... :)my_f-16-glass.bmp.bmp Edited May 19, 2017 by Charlie_01
Perrete Posted May 19, 2017 Posted May 19, 2017 If i'm not wrong, the transparent files are .tga with alpha channel and not .bmp. Enviado desde mi iPhone utilizando Tapatalk http://www.dcsskins.com/
GeorgeLKMT Posted May 19, 2017 Posted May 19, 2017 If you export the texture to 24bit BMP, you'll lose the alpha channel that drives the transparency. Use a format that can handle the alpha or export directly to dds (I think GIMP has dds plugin) ■ L-39C/ZA Czech cockpit mod ■ My DCS skins ■

Enviado desde mi iPhone utilizando Tapatalk I think you're right... Most of the canopy files' names ends *.tga.dds. This should mean they were exported to .tga format before to be converted to the final .dds skin. To be precise I've found some of them ending *.bmp.dds too. Anyway your suggestion should be good for my purpose. Thx mate! Edited May 19, 2017 by Charlie_01
