Truthkeeper Posted July 22, 2017 Posted July 22, 2017 (edited) Lately i've been trying to use the ground radar to spot airplanes in mp. What i do is move the weapon selector to "ir missile" and rise the radar elevation till i have no more ground return. What i noticed is that the radar elevation index (above radar screen) doesn't move while i change elevation (i believe a bug to be fixed) and so far i have no radar return even with a couple of airplanes in front of me. JanTelefon Posted July 22, 2017 Posted July 22, 2017 The radar isn't really made for that. It's not even made to be able to make out buildings, let alone aircraft. I think as far as A2A goes, the Viggen radar is mostly for ranging when you have someone somewhat in your sights. I have yet to use the radar successfully in A2A though.
2-niner Posted August 10, 2017 Posted August 10, 2017 In my (limited) experience with this, the only times I have got another aircraft to show up on the radar is when the aircraft in question is a large one, such as a tanker or AWACS. Aircraft smaller than that doesn't seem to register at all. And for me this has only worked when I did NOT move the radar antenna upwards - I used to try and do that as well but it seems to this makes the radar look so high up in the sky that what's right in front of you gets missed. So keep it in such a way that it's still painting the terrain for you, otherwise it seems to be pointing too high. Not sure if this is a bug or not.
