SharpeXB Posted November 4, 2017 Posted November 4, 2017 A quick look at new titles available for the Xbox One X shows them available with 4K + HDR HDR is a really significant advance for video and it's standard for all new UHD TVs and 4K Blu-ray discs. It would be a great shame if console graphics take a leap and exceed PCs  HDR would particularly benefit flight sims with it's ability to show greater color depth and contrast. Note this "HDR" is not the same HDR referred to in typical game graphic settings. It's this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High-dynamic-range_video i9-14900KS | ASUS ROG MAXIMUS Z790 HERO | 64GB DDR5 5600MHz | iCUE H150i Liquid CPU Cooler | ASUS TUF GeForce RTX 4090 OC | Windows 11 Home | 2TB Samsung 980 PRO NVMe | Corsair RM1000x | LG 48GQ900-B 4K OLED Monitor | CH Fighterstick | Ch Pro Throttle | CH Pro Pedals | TrackIR 5
Eddie Posted November 4, 2017 Posted November 4, 2017 It already has, a fair few HDR10 monitors out already with more to follow, current gen GPU also already support it.
SharpeXB Posted November 4, 2017 Author Posted November 4, 2017 (edited) It already has, a fair few HDR10 monitors out already with more to follow, current gen GPU also already support it. Yes I see some monitors. But not graphics cards carrying the logo. Mine (1080 Ti) supports 10 bit color but not sure if that’s the same thing. The card needs to handle HDR10 and Dolby Vision. And the games need to support it, for example Wolfenstein II and CoD WWII on XBox One X have HDR but it’s not clear if the PC versions do. Likely they don’t. It’s not surprising a newly released console can surpass the average PC. And that the features are easily discerned through logos on a package. Too bad PC is playing catch up here. DCS would be very nice with a range of billions of colors and better contrast. Looks like Windows 10 can be set for HDR if you have a compatible display https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4040263/windows-10-hdr-advanced-color-settings And Nvidia 9 and 10 Series cards do too https://developer.nvidia.com/high-dynamic-range-display-development Edited November 4, 2017 by SharpeXB i9-14900KS | ASUS ROG MAXIMUS Z790 HERO | 64GB DDR5 5600MHz | iCUE H150i Liquid CPU Cooler | ASUS TUF GeForce RTX 4090 OC | Windows 11 Home | 2TB Samsung 980 PRO NVMe | Corsair RM1000x | LG 48GQ900-B 4K OLED Monitor | CH Fighterstick | Ch Pro Throttle | CH Pro Pedals | TrackIR 5
Eddie Posted November 5, 2017 Posted November 5, 2017 GPUs since the 900 series have supported HDR 10/10+, and there are number of games already with HDR support. I don’t remember them all, however Hitman and Deus Ex:Mankind Devided are two examples. Dolby Vison is a proprietary format so it’s unlikely it’ll be supported anytime soon given the costs involved for hardware/software developers. HDR10 is open source, hence its support is more widespread.
