Previous posts just stated the At-9 was laser guided, no biggy, and web sites stated the missile was lock on before launch, ie acquire the laser before launch, bit hard to do if the seeker is in the rear end of the missile and the designator on the nose of the chopper.

 

Ahh, ok. The AT-16 is definitely a beam-rider. Sensors in the tail ... it acquires the beam post-launch, so you have to line up on the target in order to launch. This wasn't really simulated in the 25T in FC IIRC.

Well I think your question has already been covered, but to clearify - the "Ataka" missile mentioned in the above link is a different one(employed by the Mi-28 ),and is radio command guided :) .

 

This means that it has no laser sensors at all - the systems works by the launching aircraft locking the target by laser, translating the target information to radio command signals and then remotely guiding the missile by transmitting those signals to the in-flight missile via a radio transmitter device.
