Johnny Dioxin Posted December 7, 2017 Posted December 7, 2017 Hello my learned friends :) I am writing a ground attack mission for the AV-8B, but unlike my previous missions, I want to make this one work like a 'proper' one, with mission goals and success messages etc. I've had problems up to now, assigning mission goals - what I have is two troops of BTR-80 and one of signals trucks. The pathing and everything else is working perfectly. The main goal is to destroy the three units of vehicles. I have a Zu-23 on overwatch, but although I give it as an optional target, it isn't a mission goal - so I will leave that as it is. There are also enemy aircraft taking off from a nearby base - these are a secondary target. What I want to do is make mission success dependant on destroying every one of the signals vehicles, and if possible, say 75% of the BTR-80s and give bonus points if the aircraft are downed (but no mission failure if they aren't) Is it possible to do this? feefifofum Posted December 7, 2017 Posted December 7, 2017 Assign a flag to every trigger you want to affect the score. 75% BTRs dead? Flag 1 on. All BTRs dead? Flag 2 on. AAA dead? Flag 3 on. In goals, you then assign 51 points (a passing score) to flag 1 Assign 24 points to flag 2. Assign 25 points to flag 3. Now the user will get a score of 51 if some are dead, a score of 75 if all are dead, and a score of 100 when all targets are destroyed. THE GEORGIAN WAR - OFFICIAL F-15C DLC
Johnny Dioxin Posted December 7, 2017 Author Posted December 7, 2017 (edited) Thanks for that - goes right over my head, but I will read the ME manual (again) and see if I can pick it up. When I looked at the mission goals etc in the ME just now I was at a complete loss - but that's okay, I will try and put it all together. :book: I just flew the mission and I quite like it. Should be fun, though it is quite simple - just made slightly more difficult by the low cloud cover and the fact that you get shot at all the time. Edit: Nah, just got another headache! Reading the manual, everything makes sense, but there's so much to remember, when it gets to the editor, I'm left just scratching my head! I found the excellent video tutes by pickinthatbanjo, though, so I will try and use those to get my head round it properly. I'm getting old, ya know! feefifofum Posted December 7, 2017 Posted December 7, 2017 First you need to set up triggers with conditions with which to score. A simple example: your BTR group. Type: 1 ONCE (BTRs half dead, NO EVENT) Conditions: GROUP ALIVE LESS THAN (BTRgroup, 50) Triggered Actions: FLAG ON (1) Now open the mission goals. I'm not in the ME right now so I can't give you the exact wording. Click add and assign a score of 51 to flag 1. Now, the mission is considered successful, with a score of 51, once half of the BTRs have been destroyed. In the context of a campaign: a score of 50 will cause the player to repeat the mission. A score of 51 or higher will advance the campaign to the next mission. A score of 49 or less will send the player back one mission in the progression. 1 THE GEORGIAN WAR - OFFICIAL F-15C DLC
Johnny Dioxin Posted December 7, 2017 Author Posted December 7, 2017 That helps a lot more, thanks. I will try it out tomorrow. I watched the relevant tutorial video and read the manual again and I can see how to apply that. Well past my bedtime now, though... Johnny Dioxin Posted December 11, 2017 Author Posted December 11, 2017 Thanks for your help - the mission scoring is working well. I have given the BTR groups 24 points each, because the player should not achieve mission success just by destroying the BTRs. He has to destroy all of the signals trucks - which I gave a score of 52, so he can get mission success by killing the comms alone, but only get 100 score if he kills the comms and half of each of the two BTR groups. I do have a couple of questions regarding AI behaviour and the mission editor. Firstly, when the signals convoy is attacked, the trucks scatter. But they stay in their "scattered" positions - they don't reform and continue towards their objective. Is this normal - is that where they will stay permanently? I really want them to continue to their end destination, which is protected by AAA. If not, I think I will simply spawn them at their destination, otherwise it's just too easy to destroy them with cannon alone. Also, I have made a route for the second BTR group and I would ideally like them to take up positions once they reach the end of the road. Can this be done? Right now, they are stopping at the end of the road in convoy - and it's just too easy to spot them. Do I have to then make a waypoint on the grass (and how can I make them move to tactical positions with the ME?). Just simple answers will do - I can work on it if I know I can do these things - basically, will the convoy ever reform and continue and can the BTRs be positioned after their last waypoint? Thanks Rig: Asus TUF GAMING B650-PLUS; Ryzen 7800X3D ; 64GB DDR5 5600; RTX 4080; VPC T50 CM2 HOTAS; Pimax Crystal Light I'm learning to fly - but I ain't got wings With my head in VR - it's the next best thing!
MadDog-IC Posted December 11, 2017 Posted December 11, 2017 (edited) I do have a couple of questions regarding AI behaviour and the mission editor. Firstly, when the signals convoy is attacked, the trucks scatter. But they stay in their "scattered" positions - they don't reform and continue towards their objective. Need to set advanced waypoint Options to "Dispersal under fire = 0" or how many seconds you want them to wait, 600 seconds or 10 minutes is the default. Also, I have made a route for the second BTR group and I would ideally like them to take up positions once they reach the end of the road. Do I have to then make a waypoint on the grass (and how can I make them move to tactical positions with the ME?). Thanks You have to create a template for the pattern you want the BTR group to deploy into (ie: BTR Group Guarding), then in the end waypoint for the group where you would specify "on road", "off road", choose "custom" and then next to it "Template = BTR Group Guarding".
