Majesco Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 I'm owning a computer with features: _ P4C Northwood - 2.6Ghz/HT (sometimes @ 3.25Ghz/ SK 478) _ 1Gb of DDR400 RAM in dual channel _ MSI 865PE mobo _ Asus ATI 9550GE 128MB DDR (Clocked to 9600XT) - AGP I always achieve 19-28fps (sometimes 43fps inside cockpit without clouds) at medium-high settings, now I've $100 to buy new CPU or VGA. What should I upgrade first: _ CPU: P4E Prescott 3.0Ghz w/ 1Mb cache/ SK 478 OR _ VGA: replace ATI 9550 with an ATI X800Pro 256MB DDR3 or Nv 7600GS 256Mb DDR2/ AGP interface What'll give me better fps ? I know LO needs a strong CPU but I wonder should I upgrade P4E-3.0 over P4C-2.6 or not or ATI X800Pro 256Mb will give me better performance ? And if VGA is the best choice, which VGA should I get (AGP only): ATI X800/ X1600 or Nvidia 7300GT/ 7600GS AGP for better performance, high quality image ? Does anyone have any ideas about it ? I don't have enough money to get a brandnew high-end system Thanks in advance !
Cosmonaut Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 If you're going to get the 7600 then get the GT version. I got one a few months ago and it works great for what I payed for it. Check out my post:http://forum.lockon.ru/showthread.php?t=19607&highlight=7600GT I now run with Shadows set to full and 4XAA/ 4XAF. My system specs are 2.5 OC to 3.0 Ghz (I maybe able to increase that once I get a new power unit to 3.2), 1gig ram and 7600GT. Cozmo. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Minimum effort, maximum satisfaction. Majesco Posted January 30, 2007 Author Posted January 30, 2007 Cosmonaut, I also run with Shadows = full, AA 4X and AF 2X. But which VGA is better between Nv 7600GT and ATI X800XTPE ? Some people say Nvidia is better for both Lockon MAC and LOFC but the others say ATI Radeon is better ?????? And finally 7600GT version has no AGP interface, PCI-Ex only @Cali: me too, I prefer ATI Radeon to Nvidia GeForce. ATI 9550 really give me better image quality than my past GFX 5200

Pilotasso Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 Theres not much Majesco can to to his machine IMHO. That CPU is very weak. Adding a more powerfull GFX card might not do anything as LOMAC is CPU bottlenecked. I have a better machine 2.5 years old and Im preparing myself to completely replace it in a few months anyway. I feel that a better AGP card would only ask the CPU for more data than it can already provide when running LOMAC. Upgrading 1 or 2 components on such old PC is a waste of money and it only starves you of funds further to get a new one. .

I think that a GC may increase the life of his PC for at least another year depending on what games he actually plays. I was in a similar situation and chose to buy a 7600GT and its like a different sim now. I personally would wait at least a year before spending a lot of money building a new system or on major upgrades.. at least until Vitsa and Dx10 has time to bed in anyway. Cozmo. Majesco Posted February 2, 2007 Author Posted February 2, 2007 Cosmonaut, ATI X1950Pro has no AGP interface, almost all are PCI-Ex. I just have $100 so I dont think I can get an AGP X1950Pro which cost over $250 @Pilotasso: Hey, I'm not a millionaire :D, I agree with you that my CPU is very old but with $100 you think I can get a new computer with Core 2 E6600, 2GB of RAM and X1950XTX ???

Majesco Posted February 3, 2007 Author Posted February 3, 2007 Hey Cali, can you give me some screenshots took on your ATI X800Pro, thanks !!
Majesco Posted February 4, 2007 Author Posted February 4, 2007 Nice pics but sorry, I forgot, I need you post some screenshots with fps shown by Fraps or Ctrl+backspace Your game options are maxed out ?
Majesco Posted February 5, 2007 Author Posted February 5, 2007 Wow, nice pics, I love them, fps is good at res of 1680x1050 (widescreen monitor ???) I'll try to get an AGP X800Pro 256Mb like yours or higher But I only have 1GB of RAM so I can't set all options max out, it's not enough to play downloaded mission packs You can also try my "Fixed water mod" and "Replace Hi scene for Med scene without fps drop" on Lockonfiles to get better fps at medium scene settings  A small question to Cali: are you a fighter pilot ?
Majesco Posted February 8, 2007 Author Posted February 8, 2007 you said that you just work on the F-16, what does it mean, i don't understand yet ? Or you work as an F-16 maintainer in Arizona ?
Majesco Posted February 9, 2007 Author Posted February 9, 2007 Cali, could you take me some photos of F-16 cockpit ? @ I've just tested LOMAC 1.0 (without any mods installed) on a Sony VAIO notebook with Core 2 Duo T7200 2Ghz, 2GB RAM of DDR2-4300, LOMAC worked well with average fps was over 40-55 at high settings, Medium water, advanced haze was on (VGA is Nvidia GF 7400Go 64Mb onboard, not high-end) :megalol: and 22-35fps with very high water
Majesco Posted February 10, 2007 Author Posted February 10, 2007 try to get a new camera as soon as possible ;) Cali, do you work with any F-15E Strike Eagle ?
3Sqn_Fudd Posted February 10, 2007 Posted February 10, 2007 No F-15's here just over 180 F-16's. Can I have one? Cali... you know no one would notice... http://3sqn.com/forum/ Here's to 1.13 -- > http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h0488djMDBU
