Hey guys anticipating the 2.5 merge and considering that I now own a VR headset I bought an m.2 960 nvme SSD.

Now I'm in the process of moving my more demanding games like DCS to the new SSD but my windows is still installed in my HDD.

So this begs the question, do I really have to move or reinstall the Windows to fully benefit from the new drive on DCS? (really don't want to do that, since I have tons of games installed and other stuff and I really don't mind having windows on hdd anyway) :joystick:

For DCS no, for a slightly faster windows installation would be the reason to re-install windows on the new M.2

You could check to see if there is a util (from SSD manufacturer) to move you OS partition to your new drive

I would highly recommend that you move Windows to an SSD if you have the space. However, the priority should be to have DCS World there if you only have space for one or the other.

Fundamentally, HDD for mass storage, and SSD for program operations is the logical approach.

move all to ssd with samsung data migration software.

use your hdd for cold storage of videos and such, not for os, not for games.

later on, maybe buy a 2nd ssd, but by all means, get your os OFF that hdd

We get this question at least once per week, we should make our "always same" answer sticky !

If you opt to leave windows on the old drive, you should consider moving the windows virtual memory swap space to the SSD to get better VM performance.
