BlacleyCole Posted January 13, 2018 Posted January 13, 2018 I received my puma that I got myself for Christmas and my birthday yesterday. It arrived yesterday after my bday dinner with family I came back to the motorhome and started assembly. Did the mechanical last night having to redo several steps. Got up went for breakfast and an errand then came home and connected the wires to the controller board tight fit. Then got dcs fired up non VR configured the uh-1h game axis and had a nice flight in the Huey for the first time a combo of great controller and learning proper help techniques plan ahead and small adjustments. Now how does everyone have their buttons mapped for the cyclic and collecthead Box? How does the zone switch work? Does it act like three profiles for each button on the collective and or the cyclic? I know this isn’t an xp forum but did anyone else have trouble with xplane seein the Pro flight trainer but not letting you calibrate or configure it? BlackeyCole 20years usaf XP-11. BlacleyCole Posted January 14, 2018 Author Posted January 14, 2018 Addition Just did a vr free flight over Vegas in the Huey whew.... I did notice that unless Vegas has changed the swimming pools in the back yards were missing. BlackeyCole 20years usaf XP-11. Pavespawn Posted January 14, 2018 Posted January 14, 2018 The black switch on the collective swaps between three different maps so you can have three different meanings for each button. I mapped mine so that with the button aft the switches generally support start up procedures. I use the left red button as the starter button. The middle position is mapped to allow me to control the search and landing light and the forward is for cargo. I zero out the saturation and curves for all the axis. I am still getting accustomed to VR. I can't fly more than a few minutes without starting to feel sick. I did a quick stop in the Huey and when I rocked on the skids I nearly fell out of my chair! I don't have X-Plane so can't help you there. Oh and the NTTR map has my old neighborhood but is missing some details. But you can see Tule Springs Park!
BlacleyCole Posted January 14, 2018 Author Posted January 14, 2018 (edited) Thanks. Appreciate you response that’s what I figured how do you set it up in dcs to work correctly I figure on startup, cargo, and combat or something to that, does it affect the buttons on the cyclic also or just the collective? The searchlight is a good idea. I know when I take off and the help rocks backwards I feel like I’m gonna fall. I did a great nonprofit hop today took off did a 360 doing it not on purpose just getting control then went up hovered nicely if I say so then did a great landing my goal was a soft touch down not in. Any particular location just in the desert and I did I’m in game mode so it’s easier I’m about ready to start sim mode I’m thinking of doing a similar traing mission as the a10 initial, advance and weapons phases starting with ground school. See how it goes and how much info from both dcs and Rw I can find I wished there was a way to interact with the switches without the kB and mouse like either the rift controller or leap motion. I keep losing my mouse in vr. The three switch setup will help but not enough of them I’m talk with pro flight trainer about a Huey collective but market is too small I also asked about the three unused switch connectors next to where 1-5 were plugged in to see if they could be used to add three more on-off-on switches or six push switches or a combo there of. Haven’t heard back yet a little box added on to the collective could hold them and would look too bad.theyre also thinking of a throttle to add for fix wing flight I have the vkb gladiator and peddles but the control from the puma is so much better I also have the saitek x-56 butthey are junk compared to the vkb and puma. Pavespawn Posted January 21, 2018 Posted January 21, 2018 Sorry for the late response. I bet you have figured it out already but yes the cyclic gets all new switches when you change the selector. It doesn’t seem too difficult to modify a Huey collective head onto the Puma. The kicker would be if it made it a lot heavier. It don’t think the friction bolt would support the weight. I saw a mod to add a steering damper to the puma as well. That would help. Really, a magnetic trimmer is what we all need and they have been built on here but I’m not sure I’m that crafty lol.
BlacleyCole Posted January 22, 2018 Author Posted January 22, 2018 I figure out how to program the switches in dcs and axis in xp11 but have tried the switches yet. Iirc you get button 01-08, 11-18 and 21-28 plus the POV hat switch is pov1, pov2 and pov3. I’ve done my first setup for the Huey nothing else yet. I miss having a twist grip as my feet are numb and the peddels are hard for me to use. I had to buy a fold card table chair to use it I’m flying in vr mainly. I spoke to someone at pro flight trainer you have three unused axis and two switch positions you could add. I’m think of ad the two buttons or one more on-off-on toggle when I get home I may add one or two more axis with a thumb type joystick that came with a andruo programming kit I got.
