this is re training but not F-18 specifically would be nice if there was an instructor group that u could join for regular and on going training kind of like an online flight school for combat aircraft that would teach combat acrobatics and weapons systems

There are a number of virtual squadrons that will be happy to provide training. Just browse the thread where they are all listed, and pick one.

People will buy the map with or without a dedicated campaign for it. Further, would you only create a campaign for the Hornet? What about the Blackshark or the A-10C? Why stop there?

People will not buy a map just for a campaign, unless it was the first iteration of a Dynamic Campaign.

Forum comments and the frequent Nevada + X sales certainly give me the impression that there a lot of people who will not just buy any new map. The Hornet will quickly become the most popular DCS aircraft, SOH will be the best map for carrier ops and there are already many campaigns available for the Blackshark or the A-10C.

Not really training per say but of related usefulness is the Jetstream series.

Most people that abstain from purchasing NTTR do so not due to a lack of campaigns for the terrain, but the location of said terrain. Most claim that they want a "realistic location" to carry out virtual-warfare.

I agree the Hornet will be one of the most popular modules for some time to come. There are other modules, even carrier based, that the community is just as excited for.

SOH will be the best map for carrier ops...
"Best Map" now that is very subjective... What do you base that off of? I think the new Caucasus map will be just as equally capable of having carrier operations taking place. Heck for that matter Normandy, while a historic map, has "ocean water" and one can utilize a carrier on that map as well.

SoH will be the new "hotness" and it will probably get most of the attention post-release. That I fully expect.

...and there are already many campaigns available for the Blackshark or the A-10C.
Those campaigns do not exist on SoH though. Using your logic, there will be campaigns for the Hornet on the Caucasus and NTTR so they don't need to create campaigns for the Hornet + SoH.

With that said, campaigns will come for the SoH for most if not all modules - eventually. There is no reason for ED to take the time to build a campaign for SoH just for one module. What about those that buy SoH but don't want to buy the Hornet, crazy as that sounds some people chose not to buy it, should they have to "pay" for a campaign for a module they don't own?

The best option from my PoV (as a consumer) would be to have land based training and target practice on NTTR, then moving to carrier training (however that is done in the Navy). Then operations and campaign on Hormuz with Nimitz class carrier battle group...

I'm not opposed to paying for that content I would expect it as a package though, what I do not want to experience is "here is the F18, go read the offline manual and good luck".... I want to be taught and guided through stuff which imho is pretty essential if ED wants to attract new people to the study sim genre and grow its base.
