The_Nephilim Posted April 6, 2020 Posted April 6, 2020 Wait a minute... Im probably hitting micro center tomorrow to pick up a replacement for my current i7-8700 (not K) cpu. Was going to get an i7-9700K model. Im a bit confused on the choices though. Is the Ryzen 3900x better than a 9700k? What other options should I be looking at? Should I save a few bucks and go i5 and get hyper threading? Sorry guys, Im lost on the new architectures for the CPU's now a days. That said, my current specs are i7-8700, Asus Prime B360M-A mobo, 64gb Corsaid DDR4, RTX 2080Ti, Samsung Odyssey Plus WMD. Whats the best bang for the buck to run with? I expect to upgrade the mobo and go to liquid cooling within a few months. So I know I will be bottlenecked a little with the mobo. Any thoughts on those as well? Well I am looking for answers on this questions as well.. Not sure what to get but more cores for what I was doing with Process Lasso/Hacker would help massivley.. AMD seems to have alot going fgor them right now but I worry about longevity of those chips.. Intel Ultra 265K 5.5GHZ / Gigabyte Z890 Aorus Elite / MSI 4070Ti Ventus 12GB / SoundBlaster Z SoundCard / Corsair Vengance 64GB Ram / HP Reverb G2 / Samsung 980 Pro 2TB Games / Crucial 512GB M.2 Win 11 Pro 21H2 / ButtKicker Gamer / CoolerMaster TD500 Mesh V2 PC Case

Any thoughts on those as well? well, your current mobo doesn't suppport much if any overclocking so for that motherboard a K CPU isn't a good match. If you are also swapping the motherboard as you say, then I'd seriously take some time and check out some reviews and or spec sheets of both intel's and Ryzens. The last gen of Ryzens have really come together compared to especially first gen, with far more reliability and hassle free operation, something they have struggled a bit with at first. But honestly the upper end of Ryzen's the 3900 and over are more out to compete with the workstation line of cpu's for desktop bucks. But it's 3am here and I'm not really seeing straight at the moment so shouldn't really be saying much of anything and just go to bed. One thing though, the ryzen's do run significantly cooler than the i7-i9 intels. i7 8700k @ 4.7, 32GB 2900Mhz, 1080ti, CV1 Virpil MT-50\Delta, MFG Crosswind, Warthog Throttle, Virptil Mongoost-50 throttle.
