I have been playing around with the texture files from the old Flanker 2 ship files for a while, trying to bring them up to a better standard for Lomac.

I know what texture file each ship uses, but keep hitting the same problem. When I tart up a file and apply it to Lomac the only colour changes appear to be to the hull and some odd bits of the superstructure.

Anyone know what the solution is to getting it all the same colour, is there a base colour file of some kind that applys to all ships, or is it something more complicated ?

My plan is to get the basic colour right first then see what I can do to make the whole thing look better, I know it will never be close to the existing ships but it's a start.

As always any help much appreciated.

Hi crazyeddie,

Some parts of the ships may not be textured at all, but just use "material" colouring set for the model when it was created in max.....if so, there isn't anything you can do about it without access to the open source model.

As mentioned earlier, the old Flanker models are pretty hopeless for improvements - both due to the nature of the texture mapping as well as the low 3D detail level.

Thanks for that info, I thought it might be something along those lines.

Shame about that, some of those ships could add to the sim, nothing more to be done.

No I am afraid that af far as the actual Flanker models are concerned, trying to improve upon them is something of a dead end.

But all is not lost - they can serve as "place holders" and study objects(via modelviewer tool) for creation of new 3D models.....the interesting thing about the Flanker ships being that the code for their functionality still exists in Lock-on and therefore would be useful subjects for mod projects :) .

Ya, I think there were more ships in Flanker. I would like to see them in lockon as well.

DCS Wishlist: 1) FIX THE DAMN RIVERS!!! 2) Spherical or cylindrical panorama view projection. 3) Enhanced input options (action upon button release, etc). 4) Aircraft flight parameter dump upon exit (stick posn, attitude, rates, accel, control volume, control-surface positions, SAS bias, etc). 5) ADS-33 maneuver courses as static objects. 6) Exposed API or exports of trim position and stick force for custom controllers. 7) Select auto multiple audio devices

Yes there actually was more ships in Flanker 2.5 as that was geared more for a Naval Combat Scenario..

I think that Ed realized a few things here after the release of 2.5.. the main idea was to emulate a realistic Naval Operations simulator, which by the way 2.5 wasn't... And with their priorities leaning more towards total realism, this would prove be very expensive and time consuming (having to develop a new map for one thing)..

And also the fact that they did seemed to be leaning more towards AoG combat at the time that Lock On went gold..

So we might still see this done by Ed but I guess its not in the near future if at all...
