Hello

I installed 2.5 release version when it was available, the first thing I did was to see if I could find acceptable graphics settings for my MSI 970 GTX 4GB graphics card that would give me playable framerates. I know that this card is not the newest card, but I was hoping it could be enough since I only use one monitor in 1920x1080.

After some tweaking and using the AV8B free flight missions in Caucasus and Nevada I was very pleased to discover that I could run Caucasus at about 50-80 fps and Nevada at about 60-100 over the desert and about 42 over Las Vegas. I had all the sliders to max, used FXAA instead of MSAA and Anisotropic Filtering at 4x, Flat terain shadows, Civ traffic low, High Textures, visibility range Ultra. Defered shading and global ilumination on. I thought that this was prof that my graphics card was sufficient and I thought that the scenery looked spectacular still.

However, if i start a mission that is not free flight but has some units in them it is a different story. I have some missions I made myself that has many units in them, when running thease i get about 25-40 fps in both Caucassus and Nevada, the fps fluctuates between these values up and down.

Some times I get even lower.

I am aware of the so called memory issue that is beeing worked on by ED, are my low fps caused by this? Im asking because I have 16 GB RAM but according to MSI Afterburner "only" 13 Gb is used when I run the missions, Im not hitting the roof. Or am I?

I will of course wait for EDs solution before I buy, but would 32 Gb solve my problems?

Or is it the GPU still? In both cases with the free flight missions and the ones with many units that I made myself the GPU runs at about max 50-60% and the all 4 GB VRAM is used. Since the free flight missions runs fine it leads me to think that it is not a major problem that all VRAM is used. (I know about the 3,5 Gb issue with this card so I have also tested lowering settings to get it under 3,5 but it does not improve the fps in my own missions).

You see, I have tested so I know that uncontrolled aircraft sitting on the ramp at Nellis causes fps loss eventhough im flying the Harrier in the north part of the map above Rachel. Can the GPU really be affected by uncontrolled units so far away? Reducing preload radius and visibility range makes very small gains in fps, the only thing that really works is to delete units. Even units set to late activation that have not spawned yet impacts my fps, this I have also tested so I know its a fact. I have also tried to delete all triggers in the missions as I have heard that many continus action triggers impacts the CPU, deleting all triggers gained no fps though).

I also tested the Viggen mission "Mozdok strike" or something like that, I dont think that it is regarded as a "heavy mission" but when I spawn in the cockpit inside the concrete hangar faced inwards so that all that I se on my screen is the cockpit and a concrete texture from i guess DCS 1.2 or something my fps is down to 25. I mean, do I need a 1080 to render this scene? Im not sarcastic I just dont know exactly what requires GPU-power and VRAM, I thought that it was dependant not only to the settings i set but also to what actually is displayed on the screen at any given time.

Or is it my CPU? I have a AMD FX with 8 cores at 4 GHz (maybe 4,1 or 4,2, I dont remember Im not at my computer now). DCS is running on all cores, or it is set to all atleast, in reality it runs at 6 if I remember right. CPU load is never above 60 % at any core, most times its lower than that aswell.

I have DCS on a 500 GB SSD. I have shadow play off in my Geforce Experience.

My problem is not that I have bad performance, it is that I dont know what I must change in my computer to get good performance.

Im hoping that it is the memory issue and that it will be solved soon in a update but I dont know.

Regarding the Viggen, look here. Been an issue for a while now, but looks like Heatblur have fixed it.
