It depends on weight, IIRC 20,755 lb and below, so if you plan a vertical landing - you plan to burn/dump fuel or deploy/jettison stores to be below that gross weight.

how long can it stay in the air?

That'll depend on how much fuel you have, the fuel gauge is in pounds and fuel flow in pounds per minute, so dividing one by the other will give minutes of flight.

Best example would be for a clean aircraft just below max hover weight and not using water (as it's limited).

Ramp start: GW (clean) 20,779 lb, 5975 lb fuel (77%) before startup/idle

Hover parameters: no water used, 106% throttle, +150 fpm

5700 lb @ 260 lb/min = 21.92 min = 21 min 55 sec

In normal use though, you'd subtract your BINGO fuel, so 1200 - 2300 lb's perhaps, which would give 17 min (4500 lb) - 13 min (3400 lb) before you needed to land and refuel.

The MPCD VREST VL page display's fuel/water, OAT, field elevation and gross weight, so makes checking your weight easier than calc your weight manually from your remaining stores or having to abort a VL attempt because you have more than two legs of the Power Margin Indicator hexagon (1 leg = 15 min, 2 legs = 10 min).

OTOH if you've pre-planned/thought out your mission, a working VREST page won't make much difference.
