I have an Ivy Bridge i5-3470 3.2GHz (locked) CPU and *when* I find a motherboard (sigh) I plan to install 16GB DDR3 RAM and an SSD. I also have a GTX780Ti GPU.

What GPU, current or older generation, would be a good match for this CPU for DCS 2.5 at 1440p on a single display?

Your Max Turbo Frequency is 3.6GHz

Well I would not go under a 1070 for 1440P, as this is what I'm running on high settings @ 60 fps and that is with my CPU set down to 4.2 GHz.

For where DCS is at now with 2.5.1.

You might get away with gtx 1060 6gb.... With a few lower settings that would more match your 3.6GHz CPU top speed.

When? DCS has vulkan implemented you would possibly get away with using gtx 1060 6gb on high settings, as all the cores on your CPU would be more utilized and better utilization of the GPU. Your just limited with that CPU speed for how DCS runs at the moment.

So for now depending on budget? I would recommend the 1070 @ 1440p on high settings. For DCS and gaming in general I recommend nothing lower than the 1060 (6gb)as they come in 3 or 6gb cards.

Sorry for the babbling on, I've been looking up stuff about the vulkan api, I'll probably end up with a AMD Ryzen Threadripper, if it's going to do what I think it will.:D

By the way, how do you guys think the following would compare in DCS and generally?:

i5-3470 3.2GHz (3.6 boost)

FX-6350 3.9GHz (4.2 boost)

Man, hang on to your 780Ti until the new Nvidia cards come out. With a card like that there is very little reason to upgrade with a new generation coming out very soon. Likely what you pay for a card now, will get you significantly better performance in 6 months either from the new generation or a better model on the current generation.

Your 780Ti outperforms my overclocked 7950 and I run at Med/High 1080P like a champ with 16GB DDR3, SSD, and a Haswell 3.4ghz i5. You should be able to run at 1440P on medium settings just fine with that card and system specs. If not, and you can tolerate 1080P it would run even better.

It just doesn't make sense to upgrade right now, IMO.

There are some good deals on graphics cards:

GTX1070 around £400

GTX1080 around £500

Anyway, can an i5-3470 handle triple monitors with a GTX1080 for DCS at 1440p?
