VZ_342 Posted May 12, 2018 Posted May 12, 2018 (edited) Ok, I've opened a file to learn skinning. It has one layer, the base layer, and it has the original camo pattern as well as a plethora of details like rivets, grease streaks, etc. I create a new layer on top of the base, and I can trace the panel(s) and begin my pattern, but in doing so I lose the panel details. How do I keep those rivets etc but overwrite the original pattern? This is for learning, not yet for creating new skins to share. sunwukong Posted May 14, 2018 Posted May 14, 2018 What plane/helo are you working on? There might be a PSD template available from the "Texture Templates". This makes it easier. (Sorry if you already know this). https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/downloads/texture_templates/
VZ_342 Posted July 3, 2018 Author Posted July 3, 2018 SU-25T So, what I’ve decided to do is open up an OEM skin in Paint, add a new layer and with great patience, duplicate the individual rivets, panel lines, and other details which would be completely covered if I were to do a new livery. I save often, and use the “reverse selection horizontally” function as appropriate. So far it’s coming along nicely. It took me about 6+ hours to do the image with wings, which seems to be the one with most details given its large area. I save the layer as its own image, so it can be used over and over. (When you save the layered image as a .dds, it combines all layers into one.)
