OC the e6600

Hi, well I'm still not having to much success overclocking this cpu..

 

I know that the Commando MB.. will allow me to OC from the desk top, but I tried it out and got this zone alarm stating that the voltages were to high for my memory ..

 

So does any one have a clear understanding of this configuration and can they help me through some of the steps....

Zone alarm? as in the software firewall program? lol....

 

I highly recommend overclocking only from the bios. It's really the only way to go. Just go in there right now and look around. Go read some and then look again.... Build up some knowledge then change something.. start slow and then start changing some values

If you have taskbar icons like MB alarm monitor you might want to swich it off or set it up so that it will only ring the alarm for high temperatures.

I understand the trepidation, I was there a year ago... but I put my time in and now I have a an e6400 @ 3.75Ghz... Theres some luck to that though.

 

Just start slowwwwwwly and know what effect changes make.

I just recently built a new system and have my e6600 running at 3.2 ghz. My ram is holding me back from going any higher but the cpu voltage is only a tad higher than stock and it is running cool. I have a different mb than you but it should not be that much different so I will list my settings and you can try them out. FSB is at 400 and multiplier at 8 giving 400 x 8 = 3200mhz. My ram is running at a 1:1 ratio with the fsb so that would be 400mhz... ddr2 speed = 800 mhz. If you have pc6400 ram you should be good to go. Some ram will not overclock well, like mine which is why I am running at a 1:1 ratio to keep it at 400 mhz. You may have to bump your fsb and mch voltages up a bit also. Do this preferrably from the bios. There are a lot of good overclocking guides and info out there, just google them and good luck.

You wont blow your chip... by now you know where you need to be Vcore wise is between 1.35v-1.48v and thats the real issue often

 

How's your Vdroop Blaze? Mines still kind of bad, even after a Vdroop Mod, I might try a different pencil soon...

 

Some Diagnostic programs that are vital

Orthos - For loading your CPU (use smallftt at priority 9 for CPU)

CoreTemp - For monitoring Temps on both cores

CPU-Z - For general in windows confirmation of your settings

PCProbe-2 - Shows true volts well, thats about it

Clockgen - if you ever want to up FSB in windows (PLL control CY28551 for your board probably)

 

Whats your heatsink and fan again Blaze? This will be key... my personal "will not go higher than" loaded temp is 68c...

 

And remember, the first time your computer hard boots, dont freak out! lol ... just hit that delete key and back it down.

Its a Zalman 3200 led...

 

As you can see I'm actually running without the side cover...

 

 

I don't think that the small case fans are strong enough to cool everything properly But I don't know the Zalman might be enough...

 

I just hope that I have enough cooling to handle over clocking..

 

But I still haven't finished reading everything.. Hopefully I should be able to get all of this information into this thick skull of mine...:lol:

You have a good HSF there... If temps do become an issue try lapping the bottom of the heatsink with some wet dry sandpaper, that'll be good for a couple of degrees...

 

Try and see if you can get another 80mm fan across from the other 80mm fan, and even better, if theres airflow at the very front, put another 120mm up front. I'm assuming the inside looks like this
