This is a direct 1:1 copy-paste from r/hoggit. Posting here also to widen the pool of possible responses/ opinions.

I'm considering buying a new monitor. I currently have a BENQ27 inch which is 1080p, and has 120Hz refresh rate (BenQ XL2720T; https://www.cnet.com/products/benq-xl2720t-3d-led-monitor-full-hd-1080p-27-xl2720t/specs/).

So, I want to upgrade to a 1440p (from now referred to as "2k") monitor (to take advantage of a new 1080TI GPU), but in order to still see long-distant "dot" contacts (ciritcal for warbirds), I want to increase montior's physical size. I am thinking that 30"+ inch should be OK.

I found this fairly cheap monitor online, it's a 2K 32inch monitor. Iiyama XB3270QS-B1, https://www.alternate.de/html/product/1410939

However, on the down side, it has high input lag (35ms!) and a pretty average response time (listed as 4ms, but between 6ms and 13ms). https://us.hardware.info/product/421214/iiyama-prolite-xb3270qs/testresults

I'm not too worried about 60Hz refresh rate, for a few reasons. 1. A high refresh rate isn't so important for flight simming, IMO, and 2. If I am upgrading to 2K, my framerates will suffer anyway, despite the new GPU because I also want to now play on max GFX settings, whereas with the 980Ti I am making a number of compromises. So I won't be expecting frame rates up in the 80s or 90s, at least for DCS.

My main worry is the input lag times, detailed in the test at the above link (screen grab here https://i.imgur.com/zlqutqZ.png) Other gamers have commented that such a screen would not be good for gaming (here: https://forums.evga.com/Iiyama-Intros-ProLite-XB3270QS-315inch-Monitor-m2786595.aspx) However I susopect that these comments are directed at twitch/ reaction gaming such as first person shooters like CS:Go/fortnite/PUBG and what not. I don't really do any of that kind of gaming, the closest I get is the occasional round of Rising Storm.

What are people's impressions of this as a 2k Monitor for DCS and other similar flight sims? Will the input times be a killer even for flight simming? Am i better off sticking with by 27inch, 1080p BENQ for now and waiting for faster 2K monitors to drop in price/ get a used model?

I would like my screen to be a little bigger, would be nice! It's still a great monitor, especially if your the competitive type, if you have never use a monitor that can hit 144Hz 1ms you don't know what it's like and I would never ever go back to a standard refresh rate or without G-Sync now I've had it for a few years.

This would be my upgrade I think?

ASUS ROG Swift Curved PG348Q Gaming Monitor - 34" 21:9 Ultra-wide QHD (3440x1440), overclockable 100Hz , G-SYNC

I can max out DCS at the moment @ 1440P (NO SSAA), DCS looks stunning too.

I was looking at larger screens like Philips BDM4350UC and run it at 1440P, decided against it. If you want to do combat in the air with Tir, first person shooters or low level flying, you want the image nice and smooth as possible. 1440P at the moment is still that sweet spot I think.

I took a few screen shots for the guy's arguing in the DCS Wishlist » New visibility model the pics are reduced down with Photoshop, looks better in the sim.

The big thing also to look at, that you posted ((to take advantage of a new 1080TI GPU)) You have to think how YOU want to take advantage of it. I know I would hate to see Tearing and ghosting using an expensive card like that.

The IIyama I am looking at is less than 300EUR.

Tha ASUS you link is around 900!

I can't justify 900EUR on a monitor, unfortunately, so I'm looking for the best I can get sub 450EUR.

Gsync will likely never come down in price, Nvidia wants it to be premium priced, that much to waiting for Gsync to drop in price unfortunately.

I may add, I never regretted this monitor, it's outstanding for gaming and current GPU's dont have enough power for DCS in 4k, my ti struggles with WQHD and maxed out settings, 4k is still a bit away, unless you like medium LOD or 25fps.

The Acer Predator XB271HU is similar to what BitMaster and I have now and around your budget. Or do you really what something bigger than 27inch?

Acer Predator XB271HU bmiprz 27" WQHD (2560x1440) NVIDIA G-SYNC IPS Display, (Display Port & HDMI Port, 144Hz)

I haven't done much research on this monitor, just seeing what's out there vs price.

You want a half decent monitor to go with at GPU.

Having discussed on r/hoggit, it sounds like a 27-inch could be OK.

However, I'm not that keen on spending more than around $400 on a panel really. Much above $400 and I might as well be looking at investing in VR!

I'm not sold on the idea that I must have an IPS screen. My existing one is a 3-year old TN panel, with all the "poor" colours and limited viewing angle that comes with the older TN panels. It doesn't bother me that it is TN and I expect new TN panels will be better, colour-wise.

From Part-Picker, here's a list (by price) of all the monitors that are:

1. 27inch

2. 1440p

3. Minimum 100 Hz refresh

https://pcpartpicker.com/products/monitor/#W=2700,3150&r=256001440&T=1,20&H=100,240&sort=price&page=1

These two are.. sort-of OK price-wise:

Acer - XG270HU - https://de.pcpartpicker.com/product/t4Crxr/acer-monitor-umhg0aa001

AOC - AG271QX - https://de.pcpartpicker.com/product/mNBrxr/aoc-ag271qx-270-2560x1440-144hz-monitor-ag271qx

There's also another IIyama screen I'd not seen before:
