Can someone please explain the options for minimum and maximum processor state. I understand it governs the min and max speeds that the CPU runs at...so does increasing the min to 100% and keeping the max to 100% ensure the CPU is giving the best performance when flying DCS...or will it burn itself out?

Do you change these values for different program use depending on what you're doing with your PC?

Thank you.

NO, it will not burn itself out.

Prior to 7th gen i-Series from Intel, the ramp-up speed to go from 800MHz to say 4.x GHz was significant enough to feel the gap, the turbo hole if you wanna call it like that. In order to avoid this and in general, for gaming you set it to HIGH PERFORMANCE, so it stays at 100% and won't drop to the usual 5% as minimum.

With Intel 7th gen and later, the ramp-up speed is so rapid, I myself cannot tell if I am in Balanced Mode ( and forgot to switch ) or already in High performance. i still do it out of a habit but I have forgotten to do so many times and my 8700k honestly doesnt care.

You set the overall PowerPlan, you have 3 of them. High Performance, Balanced and Energy Saver.

By sober logic, use HP for gaming, Balanced for YouTube and Office, Energy Saver when you walk away. I do not use Energy Saver but only the first two.

Thanks BitMaster. Can you please explain the choice of which % to set for min/max for minimum and maximum processor state.

For maximum power at all times, set both to 100%. That is the actual default for the High Performance plan as well. No need to alter that plan unless you did so prior asking us. In that case, hit the "restore defaults" option.

FYI, Balanced Mode has 5% as LOW and 100% as MAX as default.

Considering as you said, the CPU powers up so quickly why not leave min at 5%?

To save that last fraction of a second :)

With a 7700k or later this is rather ok, any earlier Intel I would set to 100-100

Thanks...yes I do have the 7700k. My thinking is why keep the system high revving all the time when you're not needing it most of the time.

When you start DCS iirc, it wont drop from 100%, so it won't really matter.

What may matter is your USB power settings in that menu. if you run the Balanced Plan, I would still set my USB to not go to sleep, that can be tricky with all our gear attached.
