CRS select and flaps cycle

In the Wags startup video I have 2 issues.

 

1. He sets up the runway course using the CRS switch above the MPFD. Mine however, does not appear to do anything. Is it currently bugged?

 

2. At one point he switches the flaps to Auto, then later to Half. Is there a reason for cycling the flaps (other than to test their movement) or can they be set to Half from the get go and leave them as-is?

1- You must have a waypoint or TCN first selected.

Hmm. Could have sworn I had a TACAN set last time. Will try again.

 

As to question 2, I know where the flaps are, was just asking WHY you cycled from one position to another instead of just setting to Half (if the FCS needs it for some reason, or some other reason).

You can takeoff at half flaps and they'll blow back up to up, but you really want to set them to AUTO for scheduling.
