Why would the plane care if it's stationary at the parking spot or ~50 m further down towards the catapults?

In the case of the Harrier, it'll only align with the parking brake on (not simulated in DCS ATM).

 

I'm not sure how it works at sea, the Harrier can data link to the ships GPS (as it's on a moving platform - I've haven't read up on the Hornet yet, so don't know if that uses a similar system.

The F-18 alignment stops with an error if you disable the parking brake.

 

Well yes, but what prevents you from using applying the parking brake after you've moved out of the way? :P

that the alignment then never continued or finished until reloading. But maybe thats user error. Did it work for you?
