Mission 5 : can't find ground targets

Hi,

 

I just wanted to say that, in VR at least, finding the ground targets is +/- impossible. I tried to reduce the visibility of trees, grass, textures, to the maximum ; I also circled around the aera to make myself a target and to be fired at, and thus I could see where the bullets came from.

 

Even with this, I couldn't find the targets. So I dropped my bombs randomly around the red smoke aera and finally got this AAA, after having done this mission 4-5 times !

 

Needless to say that when firing guns it was the same, I just followed the leader from very close and targeted the aera hit by his bullets. Not very elegant :)

 

At the end I finally got : result 14 and score 90, what's the maximum grade ?

Hmm.. I think that is not in VR only and should be considered as realistic. You are going at 500 - 700 km/h, trying to spot a group of targets scattered in a thick forest. Slight chance you could make out their silhouettes anyway - and this is done by design. The mortar commanders would have to be stupid to just deploy in the open area :) thus you are required to drop your bombs at the smoke hoping to suppress the enemy and / or destroy the trucks and other soft targets in the blast area (I know, DCS still does not model the fragmentation damage from bombs).

 

90 / 100 is a pretty good score! And 14 means that you hit and destroyed something. Good job!

I searched a little bit before posting and apparently, I'm the only one who found hard to spot these targets. I also watched a video (the only one ?) of someone playing mission 6 on youtube, and he also struggles in finding the targets. At some point the AAA is out of the forest, that's how he managed to hit it. But I must say that it's in a former version of DCS.

 

Thank you for your reply ; I will buy all you campains at some point, but the M2000 is my first aircraft. I bought FC3 (but hardly tried the SU27...) and NTTR :)

Then the Red Flag will be perfect for you: M-2000C in NTTR ;)

 

What I meant is that it is supposed to be difficult to spot these targets, as it would be in real life. This you are supposed to bomb blindly more or less.

OK. I noticed there was a second red smoke, just after the leader strikes, but no dialogs mention it?
