DrGarantia Posted July 2, 2018 Posted July 2, 2018 I was practicing GBUs yesterday and noticed that after a while my GBUs weren't getting a lock or losing it mid drop, I had my laser on for a good while at that point, so my question is if the laser overheats or has a time limit of sorts? Second question, any way to enable it automatically when I launch a bomb/lmav like in the su-25t with vikhr? So far I am always clicking the fire mfcd button manually.
mvsgas Posted July 2, 2018 Posted July 2, 2018 Not sure if this applies to the AV-8B in DCS; From the A1-AV8BB-TAC-000, change 2 august 2002, page 1-412 On night attack aircraft, the lasers can only be fired and the training laser dry fired with the FIRE pushbutton. The AN/AAQ-14 LANTRIN pod had a laser time limit: When ambient temperature is between +25°C and +53°C (+77°F and 127°F), laser damage may occur under the following circumstances: • In a 1 hour period, laser is fired continuously for 3 minutes more than 3 times. • Laser is not allowed to remain off for the same length of time it was fired before firing again. • Laser is fired continuously for more than 3 minutes. When ambient temperature is greater than +53°C (+127°F), the laser should not be fired. Not sure if the AN/AAQ-28 had one To whom it may concern, I am an idiot, unfortunately for the world, I have a internet connection and a fondness for beer....apologies for that. Thank you for you patience. Many people don't want the truth, they want constant reassurance that whatever misconception/fallacies they believe in are true..
backspace340 Posted July 3, 2018 Posted July 3, 2018 I've noticed the same thing - if I attack one target and then simply move the TPOD to a new target with the laser still firing, by the time I come back around and drop then the bomb doesn't track - even though the L is flashing and nothing has changed since I used it to drop the first bomb that tracked. The only reliable way I've found to get the bombs to drop is to turn the laser off and on again before dropping.

If so can it be fixed with replacing the module on rearm or a repair ?
Fri13 Posted July 4, 2018 Posted July 4, 2018 How one does measure the ambient temperature? Like how does the ambient temperature matter at the higher altitude where there is cold, while even the friction of the air would heat up a targeting pod and its external air volume overtime? Like doesn't the targeting pod external temperature matter more than the ambient temperature? i7-8700k, 32GB 2666Mhz DDR4, 2x 2080S SLI 8GB, Oculus Rift S. i7-8700k, 16GB 2666Mhz DDR4, 1080Ti 11GB, 27" 4K, 65" HDR 4K.
toilet2000 Posted July 4, 2018 Posted July 4, 2018 Be advised, there's a bug currently that "limits" the range of the laser to approx. 8 nm. For example, the "end point" (ie the point the bomb/lmav goes after) is limited to around 8 nm, even if the actual target you're looking at is more than 8 nm away. This makes "long shots" or long range buddy lase impossible.

I have not found any laser limits for the AAQ-28 which AFAIK, is what we got in DCS ( in both the A-10 and AV8B) No sure which version of the AAQ-28 is modeled.
