KilledAlive Posted July 11, 2018 Posted July 11, 2018 I had noticed in one of the Pilot's manuals that I had found online had some procedures regarding some sort of relationship between the ASP gunsight and the Radar. From the looks of it, in all procedures regarding combat, no matter what weapon you are using against another aircraft, you are recommended to lock your target on radar before firing something at it. I was wondering if the ASP gunsight can provide any additional information using the pipper once there is a lock on the aircraft. For example, if I have the ASP on GUN/Gyro mode and I have a lock on the aircraft ahead of me, will the Sapphire give more accurate bead on the target? I have tried out locking onto targets with and without locking an aircraft and using my cannon. Sadly, I have not noticed a difference in accuracy with or without a lock-on.
Frederf Posted July 11, 2018 Posted July 11, 2018 The ASP-PFD-21-3 (4? 2?) can't direct the mirror based on the radar vector. In DCS it can if you select the cheat option in the special menu off but it's not real. I think that nonsense should be removed entirely. For gunnery there should be no difference in sight behavior if range is supplied from radar or handle as long as its the same number. When in gyro the range should apply different mirror field steering and damping strengths but the effect should be the same for the same range regardless of what system supplied it. The current ASP behavior isn't great. A lot of time it is using the wrong scale, doing manual stuff in auto, auto stuff in manual. But in general you should see the mirror displace the pipper downward as range increases.
