Hey guys,

Got a quick question :)

I set up a custom mission to practice my take-off, Immelmann, cruise and Landing. Just to add some atmosphere while I was on my travels, I threw in an Admiral Kuznetsov with a pair of SU-33's landing on board.

I was in an F-15, following my assigned waypoints. About 90km out, on my approach leg, I decided to press 1 again and switch to ILSN mode. When I did it, I noticed the HUD navigator cross was slightly askew from what the heading should have been (300).

I followed it for a while, but it was leading me totally away from the runway. Now, I didn't give it long enough, but there's a good chance it could have been leading me to the Carrier, which I based about 30km from the airbase I was flying to.

Has this happened to anyone else? Is it a bug, or am I just making some heinous error?

Any input/solutions are greatly appreciated!

I guess the only way to know for sure is to just fly it. I'm curious about what you mean by "HUD navigator cross" though.

I think he means the localizer and glideslope bars. (ILS bars)

And yes, you can select the carrier for landing even though you're not in the Su-33. I did this once in the MiG-29 by accident, but i never flew to it an tried landing on it with the ILS and such. I dont know if this would happen by pressing 1.

oh, and a dumb question. What version or lockon are you flying?

DCS Wishlist: 1) FIX THE DAMN RIVERS!!! 2) Spherical or cylindrical panorama view projection. 3) Enhanced input options (action upon button release, etc). 4) Aircraft flight parameter dump upon exit (stick posn, attitude, rates, accel, control volume, control-surface positions, SAS bias, etc). 5) ADS-33 maneuver courses as static objects. 6) Exposed API or exports of trim position and stick force for custom controllers. 7) Select auto multiple audio devices

No he means that cross that tells you where to fly your aircraft. Its the waypoint indicator cross...dont know the exact name of it.

Cheers for the replies, guys.

I'm using version 1.2 (havn't gotten Flaming Cliffs yet, still waiting for my Debit Card to arrive... banks, eh?)

Hitman was right about the cross, I meant the one that guides the pilot to each steerpoint.

It seems then, that it's possible that I picked up the Carriers' ILS instead. Interesting. I should have given it a go in the Eagle ;)

Any ideas perhaps, how I might over-ride the ILSN and get the airfield I'm looking for? (Just in case it happens again)

Yeah, I found the HSI a bit tricky to use (I'm using a hat-switch) when I'm in the more sensitive areas of landing where my full concentration is required, so I never bothered. But I'll definitely use it now.

And you've saved me a lot of time, now that I know the ILS needles aren't going to guide me right onto the runway (feel free to laugh, I'm so new to all this ^^). I'm learning loads out here in the forums guys, thanks a million!

I think the ILSN guidance is taking you to the IAF (instrument approach fix) from which you can execute your ILS approach.

Much appreciated, Rhen.

I'll keep a look out for that. It makes me all warm and fuzzy that I'm finally playing an online game where people are actually nice and the game seriously requires a blinding level of skill to suceed.

Thanks again, folks!

Here is a picture (I think done by TekaTeka) that might be of interest...

Once you get to flying the 27 / 29 / 33, then you have the HDD which shows all the airfields and you can use the ~ key (depends on your country keyboard) to swap between airfields when in NAV - RETURN mode.

It happened to me for a few times. I was on my glideslop to an airfield, then suddenly the computed glideslop was switched to a nearby airfield, I have to manualy switched it back.

OT and BTW, is there a way to cycle the waypoint backward?

I can't say I've ever had that happen.. Not aware of any way to cycle back. Wouldn't it be great to have to enter runway approach data into the nav system....

That would be great.

Do the Jeppesen charts match up with current info on the airfields (elevation, runway headings etc).

It would be nice to know. That said, I seem to remember a post from Brit_radar_dude which outlined the airfields in LO:MAC.

And another question, did ED just not bother putting in a VASI system? That would be handy. I seem to have more bumpy landings than anything. More often than not, I get 2 landings per mission, cause I bounced a little upon touchdown. :)

Cool,

Gotta start flying the Su33. I want to do a carrier landing, but I'm still getting used to the F-15.

Sukhoi's are beautiful, though. I only started to like them after playing Lock On. Truly gorgeous machines!

I can't wait to get myself into a squadron of some sort.

I'd say flying online is a great buzz!

None of my friends can fly (although, I've considered teaching one, sadly, I'd be a dreadful teacher). I just think it would be awesome to sit on a drifting carrier in the sunset and watch your friends try to call the ball; after flying a nice, tight formation.

Everything I do in LO:MAC will hopefully lead me into the Hyperlobby eventually.

I just need a bit of experience first. I don't want to annoy my squad leader, cause I can't land or cause I used all my missiles on one drone target, ya know?

I honestly can't wait, though. And I'm sure with you guys around to help, that time will come sooner than later.
