hitman Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 Depends on the flight time of the missiles. Id expect it to last approximately 12-18 hours before the first strike. After that you can pretty much count on a ground war. GGTharos Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 It might last a few days. It doesn't mean everyone will be killed right away - rather those who won't be will suffer a great deal, I imagine. Hitman. flight time is 70-90min. Fueling probably something similar to that. 1 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda
hitman Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 This isnt including the flight time of the Tomahawks with W80 warheads (which needs to be refitted from storage) and staging these aircraft shortly before the first strike. GGTharos Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 I'm talking ICBM flight time. I believe a lot of ICBMs use liquid fuel which is highly volatile and needs to be properly stored. The NIKE AJAX and NIKE HERCULES also had this issue, IIRC - and those were SAMs. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda
hitman Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 Why aren't they always fueled, would the fuel stagnate inside the missile and lose some of it's properties? They arent fueled all the time because the fuel is extremely corrosive and can literally eat the missiles from the inside out. They need to be fueled, kept fueled for a few hours time, de-fueled, serviced, and then re-fueled to keep the missiles in a green go of flight state. The trick is that you do evens first then odds next to keep a few missiles launch capable at all times. jakethesnake630 Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 EscCtrl, nobody is watching the silos. This are IR recon satelites which would spot the fire started by a launch of a SS-20 for example. The Tsar bomb was for pure "i have the bigger bomb than you" competition. They wanted to go for the 100 MT but were afraid :D IIRC the reason why Russians developed large payload nuclear weapons is due to them lacking the more advanced tracking and accuracy the West had. Why bother making it more accurate when you can simply make a bigger hole :smartass: Of course, correct me if I'm wrong...
Maximus Posted May 16, 2007 Posted May 16, 2007 wow, I have seen about 10 F117a located at Nellis AFB, surprised that it is only about 20 to 25 year old Aircraft. I am with GGthros and Pilotasso comments that they are small and very limited to 2 bays of bombs. Farewell to F177a! Maximus, The only real Maximus in DCS World. :music_whistling: I am not associated to viper 33 | Maximus. he is the imposter.
