I resently had to replace my Motherboard on my PC. I went from a fried AMD Athlon 2.3 to a P4M80-M4

I run 1 Gig of DDR, ATI 850XT Pro 256, the latest drivers for both MB and VC. I run Movie maker, Photoshop Pro with no problems. When I first brought it home I installed my usual games Lock-On FC and BF 2142. Both ran for about 10 minutes and my Mother Board would shut down. I opened the side panel and let more air circulate on the guts of it and now I played BF 2142 for about 45 minutes. Then it shuts down... It justs goes black shut down to the core. I have to do a hard reboot... I guess my board is getting too hot and the safety kick in... But, could some PC fans installed on the panel help...? Or is there something wrong with my Mother Board?

Thanks for all your imput !!!

check out the temps. usually motherboard manufactureres offer some tool to monitor the cpu and system temperature. installing a fan certainly wouldnt do any harm in any case.

You're right, it has to be heat judging by your open case experiment.

Now try directing a desk fan into the open case. If "industrial strength" cooling like that solves the problem, you can then work on improving the airflow inside your case under normal circumstances (which can be tricky in some cases). Or wait until winter to play again. I'm not sure when winter arrives in Texas though. Just after the next nuclear war I imagine. ;-)
