oldpop Posted September 6, 2018 Posted September 6, 2018 Can the range be corrected to RW Specs as shown below? If I get 20nm I am doing good! Wingspan 20.7 in (530 mm) AIM-120A/B Operational range • AIM-120A/B: 55–75 km (30–40 nmi)[3][4] • AIM-120C-5: >105 km (>57 nmi)[5] • AIM-120D (C-8): >180 km (>97 nmi)[6][full citation needed] Speed Mach 4 (4,900 km/h; 3,045 mph)
TheBamse Posted September 7, 2018 Posted September 7, 2018 Just a quick heads up, not all things on wikipedia is the absolute truth and/or the numbers are from when deploying in optimal conditions. Are all your AIM-120 deployments done in what would basically be a lab environment where all the parameters possible is truly optimal? :)
backspace340 Posted September 7, 2018 Posted September 7, 2018 Most of those ranges would probably be when fired at Mach 2.5 and 40,000 feet. I can get something like 40nm out of the 120C when fired at 40kft and Mach 1.0 or so in the Hornet, so it's probably not too far off.
