Drop down menu selection for different variants of planes?

I had an idea for making it easier to select different variants of certain aircraft (be it AI or playable) to be able to do specific roles within missions.

 

For example, take the standard C-130H that we have. It's main role and probably only role is transportation. Then we have the KC-130H, which is basically a tanker variant of the same aircraft.

 

Why not have a dropdown menu in the weapons selection area where you can change the aircraft from a standard C-130 to a KC-130. This way they'll be merged as one aircraft but can be available as an option. The KC-130 would just have it's mid air refuelling tanks (or could also be armed with Hellfire missiles) like the Marines did with their KC-130s.......

 

 

We could also add the AC-130 gunship, or the EC-130V for AWACS (all for example)

 

Similarly, even the IL-76 can be the base model, and in the drop down menu you have the IL-78, A-50 etc as options.

 

However the options need to vary per country. A certain country may have the IL-78 but not the A-50 for instance. So the A-50 won't be available for that country.

 

This option can also be added to helicopters like the UH-60 which can be the base model. And the options can contain the S-70 for Naval ops, HH-60 for search and rescue/door gunner ops, or the MH-60 Jayhawk for Coastguard.

But can this be a thing? It can also be used to add various country specific versions too, like the F-15E for the US, while the Israeli one can be the F-15I with the turkey feathers, and possibly Python missiles in the future if the game gets those?
