hitman Posted May 26, 2007 Posted May 26, 2007 Im getting the cheese this week I guess...nothing but bad luck. Got the laptop today and find out that the dvd rom wont read my cd all the way through. Its the 1.00 disk and it only goes 3/4 of the way through the installation before it gives me a cycling redundancy check. This disk isnt scratched very badly, theres no tears in the filament and resurfacing didnt help one bit. Is there a way to recover this disk without having to purchase another disk?
Psycho_909nl Posted May 27, 2007 Posted May 27, 2007 best bet would be trying a cd burner (preferably an old slower one)and copying the cd contents to disk (as long it's not lofc's disk you don't really need it anyway) also there should be some cleaning fluids to fill the scratches on cd's but if i recall correctly a crc error is being thrown by the kernel (Linux at least don't know about windows) because the hash check to check if the cd contents are matching the indexes has failed, so I'm afraid it's probably gonna be a new cd.
hitman Posted May 27, 2007 Author Posted May 27, 2007 I dont really want to believe that simply cuz this disk doesnt have that many scratches on it, and yet it installed Flanker 2.5 just fine. THAT disk had more scratches on it than any other cd that installed. Think I even used it as a beer coaster once upon a time, where I kept my Lo-Mac cd in a case since I first bought it back in '03.
spugnut Posted May 27, 2007 Posted May 27, 2007 I'd agree with psycho there - old hardware is the key. The only thing I'd add is that if that doesn't work then try and make an image of the disk (because you'll be able to set the reading speed, slower the better - try for 1xspeed if you can). Lt. Commander Block: Every aerial photo and recon report indicate a defensive arsenal in the D, and perhaps negative C, categories. There's also some anti-aircraft squadrons. Admiral Benson: I don't have a clue what you're talkin' about, Phil. Not a clue. I have a shell the size of a fist in my head. Pork Chop Hill. The only way I can make this toupee to stay on is by magnetizing the entire upper left quadrant of my skull, so you just go ahead and do what you do.
hitman Posted May 27, 2007 Author Posted May 27, 2007 IM inclined to believe all of you right now as I tried burning it on someone elses computer and got the same error message... Guess this would be too much to ask for...but is it any way possible someone can host the DATA2.CAB file for me to download??
Psycho_909nl Posted May 27, 2007 Posted May 27, 2007 no problem http://www.psycho-systems.dyndns.info/data2.cab  btw the old hardware and cdwriter combination is something i learned from experience it usually works, but that is with burn errors and scratched disks
