memoric Posted September 29, 2018 Posted September 29, 2018 Hello As the title says, I noticed, that my heading on the HUD has a five degreese difference between the course on the radar and the one on the HUD. That means my heading on the HUD shows for example 100 and the course on the radar shows 95. I think the one on the radar is the correct one, as it fits with the heading to nearest target from AWACS. Anyone knows why? And can it be "fixed"? Thank you
Svend_Dellepude Posted September 29, 2018 Posted September 29, 2018 HUD is magnetic as default. Radar is true. You can change the HUD to true via HSI page. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Win10 64, Asus Maximus VIII Formula, i5 6600K, Geforce 980 GTX Ti, 32 GB Ram, Samsung EVO SSD.
memoric Posted September 29, 2018 Author Posted September 29, 2018 Hello Thank you for helping. What is magnetic compass good for? Should i always switch to true? Is there a moment is should swwitch to magnetic? Thank you
fitness88 Posted September 29, 2018 Posted September 29, 2018 There is a chart to show the magnetic deviation but this may help: "Magnetic declination, or magnetic variation, is the angle on the horizontal plane between magnetic north and true north. This angle varies depending on position on the Earth's surface and changes over time." You should be using magnetic north for nav unless you are very far north in which case you use true north because a magnetic compass becomes useless. There are lots of articles on the net to help further explain this.
