CTD on Caucasus map

Hello,

 

Every time i fly on the Caucasus map i get a CTD after around a minute when over land.

This is only on the Caucasus map and only over land. I can fly for hours if i stay over water. The same is true if i fly on the Nevada map, which is the only other map that i have. No crashes at all.

 

I already tried to do a cleanup and repair, but the issue is still the same with the same error message.

 

I hope someone can make sense about it.

Welcome to the forums ! It would be helpful to see DCS settings and system specs , but in this case it sounds like a memory problem . Do you have a pagefile set up ? It should be twice your ram size . You could also try turning down your "trees" slider .

From the DXDIAG file:

 

                Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-4590 CPU @ 3.30GHz (4 CPUs), ~3.3GHz
                  Memory: 16384MB RAM

GPU is a 1060 6GB.

 

And settings in DCS didn't matter. Got the crash with Low and High presets.

Hello again,

 

After some deep diving into windows error logs i found the issue for the crash, which is now fixed.

 

It looks like somehow the file Caucasus.surface5 in "DCS World OpenBeta\Mods\terrains\Caucasus\Surface" got corrupted.

 

After i deleted the file and let the "DCS_update.exe repair" command redownload the file, the crash is now gone and the game runs smoothly again.

 

I'm pretty sure that Windows messed the file up somehow as the error message in the Event Viewer was

 

Windows cannot access the file E:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World OpenBeta\Mods\terrains\Caucasus\Surface\Caucasus.surface5 for one of the following reasons: there is a problem with the network connection, the disk that the file is stored on, or the storage drivers installed on this computer; or the disk is missing. Windows closed the program DCS because of this error.

 

I checked the drive over the last 2 days and it's in fine health, so i blame this one on Windows.

 

Anyway if someone should run into a similar problem, this might help.
