159th_Fusion Posted June 21, 2007 Posted June 21, 2007 Hi chaps, Got a small problem appeared this evening. Whenever I transmit I get a HUGE FPS drop (like from 70 down to 10). I've check codecs, bindings etc and can't see anything amiss. Anyone got any ideas, or has experienced this before? All help appreciated. (Need to get this sorted for RF2 this weekend!) Flashing through the sky on a hampster driven, monkey navigated four-poster-bed.
GGTharos Posted June 21, 2007 Posted June 21, 2007 Have you experienced this problem before? Is your sound card of the on-board type, or an actual addon? [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda
159th_Fusion Posted June 21, 2007 Author Posted June 21, 2007 No only this evening, tried reboot of PC and router, no success. SB Extreme Music X-Fi with latest drivers etc... Flashing through the sky on a hampster driven, monkey navigated four-poster-bed.
GGTharos Posted June 21, 2007 Posted June 21, 2007 Did you make any driver updates/installed windows updates, anything like that since the last time you knew it worked fine? 159th_Fusion Posted June 21, 2007 Author Posted June 21, 2007 Deffo no Driver updates. Don't think there have been any auto updates since it last worked ok. Flashing through the sky on a hampster driven, monkey navigated four-poster-bed.

Kuky Posted June 22, 2007 Posted June 22, 2007 Tried reinstalling Ventrilo? Maybe beforehand check that you got your suond card sellected for all the Input/Output/etc settings in settings menus... other than that I don't know, I don't have such issues on my end and I use X-Fi Extreme Gamer version. Did you try setting up some other key for Push-to-Transmit? Merc Posted June 22, 2007 Posted June 22, 2007 1st : Think about everything you installed or changed on the computer lately. Also, check your running processes for anything suspicious. You could try checking/unchecking hardware acceleration in your sound configuration. In Vent/TS Try changing your sound device and directsound to waveout and back again? Finally, check the CPU priority at which ventrilo and/or TS are running. If lag appears in both, I wouldn't look into that last thing really. Other than this, I got no clue. - Nachtwolf
159th_Fusion Posted June 22, 2007 Author Posted June 22, 2007 I've had a possible thought, I changed the transmit button to the 'decimal point' on the numpad, from "\" that I had it on before, but didn't test it in-game, the night before I noticed the problem. I'm wondering if (by some wierd reason) that might be the cause of the problem. I will test this theory tonight when I get home from work. Thank you for your thoughts and help gents I really appreciate it :) I'll post up what I find tonight in the hope changing the TX button will solve the problem. hitman Posted June 22, 2007 Posted June 22, 2007 I had a similar problem in Ice's server earlier today, but vent or ts werent the cause of it. Seems like looking straight ahead (TIR4 of course) plummeted my satisfying 30fps over cities to approximately 1/2 of a frame, but moving my head from side to side cleared up...till I looked forward again. There should be a console function in-game where you can dumpcache and flush (americas army speak) server missions.
159th_Fusion Posted June 22, 2007 Author Posted June 22, 2007 You think it might be a case of clearing my cache then? Forgive me I'm not overly tech minded....... But wouldn't a full cache cause slow game play full-stop, not just when I transmit? Flashing through the sky on a hampster driven, monkey navigated four-poster-bed.
159th_Fusion Posted June 22, 2007 Author Posted June 22, 2007 FOUND IT! My thanks for your assistance gents. I've found the problem, was a simple conflict with a hotkey I had set ages ago with my ATI Tray Tools and forgotten about. Phew, panic over. Thanks again, your quick responses are much appreciated indeed:cheer3nc: I do now however feel somewhat , ah well!
