Larkis Posted March 6, 2019 Posted March 6, 2019 Im a little bit afraid about carrier ops. Maybe someone could help me? My concern is about Case 3 Landing at night. In the Hornet i could use my course Selector for the approach part, make it comfortable to fly case3. Bu what about the tomcat? As i heard (maybe wrong) we dont have that ability to place a courseline in the Tomcat. And also the HSI dont have a good visibility down there behind the stick. So i think the pilot needs instructions from the RIO who guide the pilot to the ball call. Will Jester be able to do that?
TonyG Posted March 6, 2019 Posted March 6, 2019 You can track a tacan radial in the Tomcat fairly similar to the Hornet. Deviation can be displayed on the VDI and the HSD. The AWL system will also give you ILS needles in the HUD and on the VDI. If there was a case of an incapacitated RIO, it would be expected that a pilot be able to get themselves back to the boat or to a runway with no assistance. 9800X3D, MSI 5080 , G.SKILL 64GB DDR5-6000, Win 11, MSI X870, 2/4TB nVME, Quest 3, OpenHornet Pit

The pilot can easily adjust the HSI course and this is all displayed behind the stick on the HSD and is easy to see :) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] 104th Phoenix Wing Commander / Total Poser / Elitist / Hero / Chad www.104thPhoenix.com www.facebook.com/104thPhoenix My YouTube Channel

We actually landed a couple 'cats back in the day. Handed them off from ship to ship, flew them to the boat and put them on the deck. The pilot was a nervous wreck, but the system worked. The idea being if the PILOT is incapacitated the RIO should still be able to come home. The only thing the RIO stick flies is the radar; IIRC that's the first time the GIB wasn't able to drive the aircraft if something happened to the GIF. That's something I heard most of 35 years ago, though.
