Hi,

I am trying to settle on a build and want to be as sure as I can about it. I play multiplayer 90% of the time on a 55" tv at 1440 X 900. I don't plan on VR but do want a fast load speed and be able to play multiplayer (which my current rig no longer can handle).

If I can get High default settings I would be happy with a 50-60 or more fps.

Here is my shopping list (click pic below), my case and PSU (850W) will still be ok to reuse. Grateful for any feedback or ideas. If anyone knows how many SATA connections I'll have after the SSD on Nvme that would be great, I cannot figure it out. I only need two more SATA connections for an old HDD and my O/S SSD.

Thanks.

I have recently done a 9600K build for my wife using my old 1080Ti.

Mobo is Asus Prime 390Z cost a bit more and I figured newer intel 9th gen support and all although for a 9600K Prime Z370 should be fine.

RAM 4 by Corsair Vengeance 2666 XMP set them to 2800 so I didn't argue.

Prime Z370 has 6 SATA on board the only restriction on the Z390 is SATA 5 and 6 share bandwidth with PCIe slot 3 and if you use a SATA M.2 in slot 1 you loose the SATA port 2, I used a SATA-3 SSD so no issue for me and it's heaps fast enough amybe save a couple of $.

Performance can't answer for 1070Ti but with the 1080Ti the short test I did with 2560 * 1600 in the SU27 I was getting 80FPS with out of the box settings on the ground in Caucasus and in Rift VR it's solid 45FPS in Caucasus with CPU hitting 32% usage.

What is the price difference between 1070Ti and 2070?? (hard to source here)

Not much in it though.

I'm using the Noctua NH-D15 which seems pretty similar and works a treat.

PSU EVGA 750W G2 fully modular but your case and PSU should be fine to go

Over all as I had a fair bit of the kit on hand already for the cost of PSU, mobo and CPU I'm very happy with it sure a 9700K might have been better but DCS doesn't seem to utilise my rig much better. The price difference 9600K9700K goes a long way to getting a Rift for my wife who is keen to jump into the Gazelle with me, crazy I know.

YMMV

Control is an illusion which usually shatters at the least expected moment.

Gazelle Mini-gun version is endorphins with rotors. See above.

Currently rolling with a Asus Z390 Prime, 9600K, 32GB RAM, SSD, 2080Ti and Windows 10Pro, Rift CV1. bu0836x and Scratch Built Pedals, Collective and Cyclic.

Thanks Fragbum,

Awesome that you have a copilot handy. Not sure if flying with the other half is a fun idea or a recipe that would end up with me in the doghouse. I think i’ll Give it a miss.

Thanks for the info, looks like my build should do the trick. Your main rig must be amazing. Do you ever see your ram usage go over 32gb with dcs multiplayer?

Yeah there are so many combinations of hardware out there and so many PoV's.

I guess the question you also need to consider is, are you planing on a lager monitor (or at least higher resolution) or even VR which might impact on component choice?

The RIG is actually broken currently mobo sent back for testing, hence my "testing" this RIG.

Having said that it's only the CPU and the Intel 750 Series NVMe PCIe SSD of the 5930K RIG that is better than the 9600K build and overall both Rigs hit 99% percentile in Passmark bench testing, what ever that means.

Also surprised me is that in Passmark 3D test the 9600K can wangle about 8% more out of the 2080Ti (For DCS testing purposes only. :music_whistling:) than the 5930K I think RAM speed helps here.

Nah the most I have seen is maybe 16GB in MP so 32 is a good choice I think.

Oh and I wouldn't get into a Gazelle with me if I had a choice,.. :D

BTW What is your current GPU?

My psu is a very early i7, must be 8 years old. It’s on a ASU’s p6t motherboard, so very old. I know it all needs replacing hence the only thing I’m not changing is the case and psu.

CPU - central processing unit

PSU - power supply unit

My bad. Psu is a TX850V2, Corsair. 2011 I think.

I don’t think psu’s Need replacing as much as people say. Transformers are pretty reliable and simple things.

Also noticed that I should be using a higher res on my tv with gui scaling on. Can 1070 or 2060 cope with the full res on a 4K tv?

I doubt that a 2060 will make fun in 4k but you can try and lower LOD.

I also sincerely doubt that a 2011 PSU should be used in a new build.

What you call simple and reliable can be very tricky once it has aged...and yours has riped for...lemme count...8 years by now. Do yourself a favour and plan to buy a new one.

Demon can guide you through ANY psu question. He's da man :)

Hmmmm, if that is the way to go, might just go for an off the shelf pc. Any recommendations for a ready built rig for dcs? Less than £2000.
