Arctander Posted March 10, 2019 Posted March 10, 2019 (edited) Hi All, I fly in DCS using the Oculus rift and it is a fantastic experience. One thing however does detract from the overall experience for me however. We know that zoom functions in flight simulators are a replacement for our eyes ability to perceive small far away things with better acuity than on a flatscreen, and this is equally true of VR headsets - especially due to the low resolution and performance/artifacting issue from ASW and similar techniques bring. Spotting in VR is difficult, be it ground targets, air targets or friendly flight mates. At the moment - the VR zoom is good enough for use in the cockpit to focus on an instrument, but it is not really enough to be able to use for spotting targets. This is more than likely due to fears of ‘confort’ Issues for VR users. In IL2 this has been resolved to an extent using a mod that: 1) enables a dual power zoom with different keybinds. 2) gives users control of the power of each zoom level so they can select the magnification for how experienced/comfortable they are using it. I would really like therefore something similar in DCS, mainly for VR users, but also useable for trackir users as I see no problems with both sets having access to this type of setting, however given VR zoom is a separate function/keybind this may be more difficult for ED to do. I don’t think this would be a blocker though as trackir users would have the benefits of a more powerful zoom and better resolution already. I would see this as being an extra setting, either in special or Vr page that enables a ‘spotting zoom’ via a separate keybind. This could be for the start twice as powerful as current VR zoom, however the ability of the player to specify which zoom levels they want for each of these different zooms could be user selectable (from a pre set list to ensure balance/ensurin ED control to prevent edge cases). What are people’s thoughts in this proposal? Is there a way to improve the current zoom levels using a mod?m in the way once described? Cheers all....
