Steve Davies Posted March 17, 2019 Posted March 17, 2019 (edited) Is there any way to get true heading on the BDHI? Can’t see an answer in the manual, but while flying over NTTR I had 270 on the BDHI and noticed that the map view showed my heading as 285. Assumed this relates to mag variation... Andrei Posted March 18, 2019 Posted March 18, 2019 (edited) I have the same problem in the Gulf. VM says +1.8 which is close to the truth, while the VC gives -12,3 which is more like Nevada module-wise. Jester's doing the startup. Guess he has wrong maps. Now, falling back to COMP mode of course gives almost correct heading. I say "almost" because it still gives true heading, while it should give magnetic. Looks like a bug to me. P.S. Worth mentioning maybe that it's a carrier alignment. P.P.S. after reading the manual: "Note that you will get erroneous heading readings on a carrier, even if fine align is complete. The heading can deviate up to 20 or 30 degrees, depending on the parking position on the carrier and the carrier’s heading, due to the carrier’s own magnetic field and induced magnetic field. It is important that the flight crew know the carrier’s BRC. The magnetic variation caused by the carrier’s magnetic distortion will go away shortly after take off. This magnetic distortion does not impact the alignment quality" I'll need to check though if it really goes away or not.
