Schlapperklange Posted March 21, 2019 Posted March 21, 2019 (edited) You did a really good job on the Cat! But not everyone has DCS running on high end machine. It would be nice to have the option to use textures with lower resolution without interfering with the multiplayer IC checks. For me it is more important enjoyable to have a good running Cat without lags and stutters than having a permanent eye candy. I think I am not alone with this wish. Thanks you and keep on with your great work! Cobra847 Posted March 22, 2019 Posted March 22, 2019 The options menu has an option for Texture size/quality. Medium will load the 2nd mipmap (so 1/2 texture size) :) Nicholas Dackard Founder & Lead Artist Heatblur Simulations https://www.facebook.com/heatblur/
Knock-Knock Posted March 22, 2019 Posted March 22, 2019 Cobra, would it be possible in your end, to exclude the cockpit textures from the texture setting? Id much rather have all the ground units, other planes, any unit or object, use lower res textures, but keep it for the cockpit, where I really need it. I so rarely see any other unit that close up, that it actually shows me the top mip, yet its still in memory, which is getting sparse. And lowering the texture quality has a nice impact, with 1/4 the memory impact with medium and 1/16 for low, for a given texture. But man, cockpit labels are just a smear at that res. - Jack of many DCS modules, master of none. - Personal wishlist: F-15A, F-4S Phantom II, JAS 39A Gripen, SAAB 35 Draken, F-104 Starfighter, Panavia Tornado IDS. | Windows 11 | i5-12400 | 64Gb DDR4 | RTX 3080 | 2x M.2 | 27" 1440p | Rift CV1 | Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS | MFG Crosswind pedals |

Unfortunately that's an DCS thing that we can't solve. :( A seperate "Cockpit Textures" setting would be very useful in DCS itself. Cornelius Posted March 22, 2019 Posted March 22, 2019 Reducing all textures in DCS only to make the F-14 smoothly playable is neither an option nor a solution. Guys, If you want to see a BIG performance improvement in the short term before you can get to upgrading your hardware than the reduced texture resolution set for Interior and Exterior make a big difference for me. Currently they do prevent you from playing on servers with Pure Texture IC but HB will be adding a custom cockpit option soon which will get around that. I got a massive improvement in FPS and general smoothness from reducing the VRAM usage by using smaller textures. I fly VR so it looks just about the same for me regardless. lunaticfringe Posted March 22, 2019 Posted March 22, 2019 (edited) Reducing all textures in DCS only to make the F-14 smoothly playable is neither an option nor a solution. It's absolutely an option, as it exists in the menu; it is only a solution that you do not like, because of your own specific use case versus the limitations that HB is forced to work within based on the options available in DCS. You ask for something to be made available, which it is. There's no additional option for further delineation. It is what it is. Honestly, running this with varying frames between mid 40s to locked 60 FPS on a Haswell mobile i7 and a GTX 860M- with high textures, I'd have to suggest looking at the rendering options you have selected. Everything comes with a cost- and as you say, not everyone runs a high end machine. Edited March 22, 2019 by lunaticfringe
