The Hornet is DCS's piece of resistance, and there are still many features to come. Without question, get the F18.

Wanted to circle back around and update this thread for anyone who may have an interest in this decision for the future. I’m sure anyone who frequents the various DCS boards here have noticed I really ping ponged around between DCS mods. After spending some time in the Hornet with the goal of carrier ops, it became quite apparent I was putting the cart well ahead of the horse. Coming from a nearly 20 year GA simming background I realize I have a great deal to learn on the military side of DCS. Combat related avionics, weapon systems, general vocabulary and terminology (glossary), the sheer speed and pace of jet aircraft among many other subjects. I’m now realizing these require at least a minimum of proficiency if not just flat mastering each of them.

So… the past few weeks I have moved back to what originally brought me to DCS from the GA simming side, which was stumbling across an A10C video. My bouncing around the various modules after my initial foray into the A10C can best be likened to my nine year old grandson standing in the hobby shop looking at the models on the shelf. Can we build that? or that? Or that? I know how he feels. I’m looking over at the Spit, the Huey and the Tomcat. I just installed two MFCD’s and a Buddy Fox UFC should be at the front door the first part of the week. I know many here started with the A10C too and have “moved on”. It makes sense to follow the same learning curve, even if it takes longer than what I first thought.

Thank You to those offering great advice here. I truly appreciate the time and thoughtful responses. I’m now putting in about 10 hours a week learning the A10C. It’s going to take A LOT of time. There is a deep well of very good training out there for the A10C to get me to where I need to be before attempting carrier ops. Not that the Hornet won’t also have such a collection soon. I know I can follow that trail when the time and my knowledge are ready for it. I am trying to slip in 30 to 60 minutes a week on the dry landing tutorial for the Hornet to keep my head in the carrier ops goal. It’s a testament to DCS how much the Hawg and the Hornet differ flight characteristic wise. In one you know you’re flying a titanium bathtub and the other feels like a sparrow winged kite. I’m sure I’ll haunt the Hornet board and its development as time marches on. It’s a great time to be simming. The future looks VERY promising.

Nothing wrong with concentrating on the A-10C. Some love it so much they never fly anything else. She's an ugly old girl but not hard to love.

Good luck with your journey.
