Shack Posted April 2, 2019 Posted April 2, 2019 Gents ... I'm only getting about 20-30 fps with my Pimax 5K+ on my machine. Settings as shown above for Pitool and DCS ( operating at 90Hz on Brainwarp ) Computer Specs are as follows: i9 7980XE overclocked to 4.7GHz 64GB RAM 1080Ti Windows 10 Also, cockpit clarity is ok (love the fov) but when I move my head in the cockpit, it sure is blurry until i finally stop moving my head. Any words of wisdom on tweaking the above? Thanks Intel i9 14900K @5.5 MHz, 64GB DDR 5 RAM at 6000 MHz, RTX4090, Pimax Crystal HMD, HOTAS: Winwing F16EX / Orion 2 Throttle base / Top Gun MIP / F-16 ICP setup. Svsmokey Posted April 2, 2019 Posted April 2, 2019 Did i read somewhere that DCS does not use parallel projection ? FOV set to 150 ? 9700k @ stock , Aorus Pro Z390 wifi , 32gb 3200 mhz CL16 , 1tb EVO 970 , MSI RX 6800XT Gaming X TRIO , Seasonic Prime 850w Gold , Coolermaster H500m , Noctua NH-D15S , CH Pro throttle and T50CM2/WarBrD base on Foxxmounts , CH pedals , Reverb G2v2
Shack Posted April 5, 2019 Author Posted April 5, 2019 I turned off Parallel Projection with no noticeable effect ... DeltaMike Posted April 5, 2019 Posted April 5, 2019 I don't have a Pimax (wish I did) but off the cuff I'd say the biggest drags on VR performance are anti-aliasing (supersampling, MSAA), shadows, and vis range and trees. I think the nugget of the thing is to see where your PD and steam supersampling are compared with other Pimax users. You could try setting vis range to medium, trees around 50%, grass/clutter off for now and see where you're at. But I got a nickel says its SS Ryzen 5600X (stock), GBX570, 32Gb RAM, AMD 6900XT (reference), G2, WInwing Orion HOTAS, T-flight rudder
Svsmokey Posted April 5, 2019 Posted April 5, 2019 Watched a 2-1/2 hour in-depth video by Sweviver on pimax 5k and 8k last night . With a similar system , he was not a happy camper in DCS . Had all his DCS settings low , steam supersampling to 30% to get frames in the 35ish range . Also watched a couple of (sounded like) Russians flying a Tomcat get low to mid 30s AT ALTITUDE depending on whether another aircraft was in the frame . I'm afraid you're gonna hafta majorly dial down your DCS settings expectations-at least until the VR terrain engine fix coming "soon" . This will give you 50% more performance . 9700k @ stock , Aorus Pro Z390 wifi , 32gb 3200 mhz CL16 , 1tb EVO 970 , MSI RX 6800XT Gaming X TRIO , Seasonic Prime 850w Gold , Coolermaster H500m , Noctua NH-D15S , CH Pro throttle and T50CM2/WarBrD base on Foxxmounts , CH pedals , Reverb G2v2

Once I dialed it back to 90%, I got into the 20ish FPS range. Intel i9 14900K @5.5 MHz, 64GB DDR 5 RAM at 6000 MHz, RTX4090, Pimax Crystal HMD, HOTAS: Winwing F16EX / Orion 2 Throttle base / Top Gun MIP / F-16 ICP setup. It's a shame people spend a ton of money on a rig that, according to the presale hype of the Pimax, is supposed to offer a good VR experience. What they don't tell you is that software companies need to do their part to keep pace ( as is ED ). Svsmokey Posted April 5, 2019 Posted April 5, 2019 Sweviver mentioned another more VR-friendly flightsim that ran very well indeed with the 5k-on a 1070 ! 9700k @ stock , Aorus Pro Z390 wifi , 32gb 3200 mhz CL16 , 1tb EVO 970 , MSI RX 6800XT Gaming X TRIO , Seasonic Prime 850w Gold , Coolermaster H500m , Noctua NH-D15S , CH Pro throttle and T50CM2/WarBrD base on Foxxmounts , CH pedals , Reverb G2v2
DocSigma Posted April 8, 2019 Posted April 8, 2019 I read something that pimax5k looks great on paper, but it takes a top end rig with a 2080rtx titan just to run It with any satisfactory performance at its large res and large fov. Just upping screen res and fov outpaces current tech that doensnt exist yet. VR needs foveated rendering and spot on eye tracking to make high res lenses and large fovs practical.
