steelrfan85 Posted April 3, 2019 Posted April 3, 2019 I have two questions about fuel. First is fuel is burning while I’m waiting for jester to finish. Can I call up ground crew to refuel me? Second is about bingo fuel. What’s a good number to set bingo fuel on?
Knock-Knock Posted April 3, 2019 Posted April 3, 2019 1. Yes 2. Depends on how far (and how high) you have to travel to get back, or to a tanker. - Jack of many DCS modules, master of none. - Personal wishlist: F-15A, F-4S Phantom II, JAS 39A Gripen, SAAB 35 Draken, F-104 Starfighter, Panavia Tornado IDS. | Windows 11 | i5-12400 | 64Gb DDR4 | RTX 3080 | 2x M.2 | 27" 1440p | Rift CV1 | Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS | MFG Crosswind pedals |
steelrfan85 Posted April 3, 2019 Author Posted April 3, 2019 Is there an equation or something to reference to determine what I should set for bingo?
BellRanger Posted April 3, 2019 Posted April 3, 2019 NAVAIR pocket checklist has the tables and calculations available in the chapter on bingo fuel on page 221. Also there is some useful stuff in the reference data chapter such as endurance tables. https://mega.nz/#F!WR9hwQoK!NXGsaNB-30aOO8Ki_KS0tA!GMki0Bwb
key_stroked Posted April 4, 2019 Posted April 4, 2019 (edited) I usually look at my fuel flow gauge and whatever number the bar is on is how much fuel I'll burn in 30 min. There are max conserve tables out there somewhere, but you can get pretty efficient with your fuel burn. I'm typically around 4-5,000 lbs FF at the cruise speeds I keep, so I know that whatever groundspeed I'm at divided by 2 is how many miles I can go with roughly 5,000 lbs of fuel. I also generally want to keep at least 1,500 (that's just my number) lbs of fuel for go arounds or a divert if necessary. I know from experience the jet will flameout at about 300 lbs of fuel left. There's a little in the tank that doesn't get used. Edit: According to real F-14 drivers and RIOs from the Fighter Pilot Podcast, max endurance was around 220 knots which gave you roughly 2,000 lbs/hr per engine. Unknown if Heatblur modeled it similarly. You can listen to the bit about fuel and endurance starting at 13:05 --> Edited April 4, 2019 by Halcyon
