Hummingbird Posted April 30, 2019 Author Posted April 30, 2019 I look at it from the point of view, the relative lack of power (because its either power or drag) is going to be a good primer for the A model when we get it. 1. It's actually both atm, i.e. too much drag at high AoA and a lack of thrust (mostly the latter however) 2. The F-14A was nowhere near that bad man :) In full AB the F-14A was quite the beast, esp. down low near SL where it infact would outspeed the F-14B.
deadpool Posted April 30, 2019 Posted April 30, 2019 I look at it from the point of view, the relative lack of power (because its either power or drag) is going to be a good primer for the A model when we get it. I dont fly high so much, in multiplayer dominated by Aim9X and Aim120 there is no point. But I did manage to get it in the slot and stick the nose above the horizon, put it in 15AOA and burner, and brought it around to surprise an f15 that was all over me. I would agree that going vertical makes no sense at the moment. But in truth, im not sure it really makes sense against F18s armed with Aim9X anyway. Even a Mig29 got me that way. I have to admit, ive not been flying it of late, simply because its such hard work. But it can be done, certainly against unimaginative pilots. You should really fire your Phoenixes outside of the AIM-120 and AIM-9 envelopes. Flying high shouldn't be that much of a problem. RSharpe Posted April 30, 2019 Posted April 30, 2019 I really hope a fix will land tommorrow :) I say this as I can't really bring myself to fly the Cat atm because of how massively it is underperforming, all your oppponent has to do is use the vertical and the game is basically over for the Cat.Same here. I didn't think it would happen, but I've actually gone back to the F/A-18 recently. Sent from my ONEPLUS A6003 using Tapatalk

I guess im prepared for a step down from a porche to a Volkswagen now, as one guy put it.

Oh I do, in TWS mode. And not one of them has yet scored a hit, largely because halfway to the target the player either wittingly or unwittingly notches and I lose lock. PDSTT is one option, but as best I can tell if you do it at any range, they will certainly pick up on it and most definately WILL notch you. Cant say for sure ive tried Phoenix in ACM mode or not. I THINK I did, against a maneuvering F15. And it still took an Aim9 to finish him. I get a lot of kills with Phoenix against AI. Against multiplayer with guys in F18's? Not so much. Ive got more kills with Sparrow, which is really saying something.

If you identify your target and realise it is higher than you, rather than fight with a drop in thrust to get higher than him, drop lower, look up at him and select P-STT, he aint notching that so easily ;)
Hummingbird Posted May 1, 2019 Author Posted May 1, 2019 No patch this wednesday, bummer, guess we'll have to hope for friday.
Donut Posted May 1, 2019 Posted May 1, 2019 No patch this wednesday, bummer, guess we'll have to hope for friday. Wags mentioned the next OB update for the Hornet is May 8...we might have to unfortunately wait until then for the Tomcat as well. i5 7600K @4.8GHz | 1080 Ti | 32GB 3200MHz | SSD | DCS SETTINGS | "COCKPIT"
Longiron Posted May 1, 2019 Posted May 1, 2019 AWG9 is supposed to be difficult to notch in a look up scenario, but you loose a lot of the huge advantage of range the Phoenix offers. Although I haven’t tested this.
