Johnny Dioxin Posted May 4, 2019 Posted May 4, 2019 I have a 1TB SSD coming today and I'm seriously considering doing a completely new install of 2.5 on it, rather than simply copying my current one over - which was an update to 1.5.8 Has anyone actually done this and noticed any improvement in performance? I'm not talking about SSD compared to a mechanical drive, I'm talking about a fresh 2.5 compared to updated from 1.5. Speed of install doesn't bother me, I usually get a good 8.5 to 9MB/s transfer speed, so no longer than a couple of hours at worst for a complete install from the server. Chars :) Sure, do a fresh clean install. Probably won't make much difference. Copying will take longer than a reinstall, but the main reason I was asking is because I have had some issues with the upgraded install - such as the sim demanding an activation for my BS2 module every time I start it, despite having activated it in January 2018, after the update to 2.5. Unfortunately support weren't interested, so I have to try and help myself. If I copy it across, this will likely continue, if I do a fresh install, maybe it will be okay - but then I will have to deactivate/reactivate other modules and it's a bit of a PITA - especially when it starts playing up (as with BS2, for which I now have a single activation remaining and don't want to have to wait a month if things go pear-shaped again) and might affect other modules, too. Think I will do the new install, though - at least I won't have any dregs hanging around.
