imacken Posted May 16, 2019 Posted May 16, 2019 I'm clearly doing something badly wrong when using the Sparrow in non ACM mode. I move the TDC over the target on the radar, lock it with depress, but what I see on the HUD bears no resemblance to what it should look like as per YT vids and manuals! The TD box just jumps around, the steering dot has a mind of its own and generally nothing seems to relate to the target at all! Switching to ACM makes it work perfectly though. Is there an essential step I am missing? Pheonix0869 Posted May 16, 2019 Posted May 16, 2019 Seems like LTWS is enabled in your radar's data page, (which is enabled by default now). Depressing once with the TDC will track the target and continue scan, hence the slow refresh rate on the HUD. A second depress of the TDC will hard lock the target. You can lock multiple targets now, but only for SA. Also reducing bars and azimuth scanned will allow the tracked track to refresh more frequently... Less bouncing around the HUD. imacken Posted May 16, 2019 Author Posted May 16, 2019 Thank you so much, that was it! I switched off LTWS and everything is all good. imacken Posted May 17, 2019 Author Posted May 17, 2019 Thinking about this, has the default changed? Is it a bug that LTWS is on by default? I'm also kind of surprised that this has not been raised by others previously as there is no mention of having to switch LTWS off in any of the YT videos nor in the manual. The videos are probably from before LTWS was added in. LTWS is meant to be on by default, it's not a bug. You don't have to switch LTWS off - in order to STT lock you can either press TDC depress on the target again (i.e. once to tag it in LTWS, twice to STT), or you can use AACQ (Sensor Select Right) on a brick to skip LTWS and go straight to STT, or you can simply pull the trigger while LTWS locked with a Sparrow selected and it'll auto-transition to STT.

imacken Posted May 17, 2019 Author Posted May 17, 2019 I'm guessing that not being able to switch off LOFT is a bug, yes?
