I have printed out the whole manual, but still does not fully understand how to use the radar in Lock On FC. I press "I" for radar but does not see any enemy planes in it! I see something moves from "side to side" but the radar does not detect the enemy. Sometimes I feel itґs hard to see the enemy in a dogfight if heґs at long range etc. I have also tried to press "2" to engage the beyond visual range, but I see a small rectangle and and a pyramid shape comes up on the radar. I have trouble understanding the manual and I regret playing online as I feel kinda "noob"...I woundnґt destroy anything playing online as I donґt know how do differ friendly from enemies.

Is there someone here that would have been kind to me that could show me some tricks or to on ie. teamspeak? F.ex how to use the radar, while the "teacher" flies an enemy plane and how I can see him on radar etc. Or is there any trainingvideos on the net? I have found some, but none of them shows how to use radar and such. I would love to play online, but I feel I will just angry most of you not even know the radar...

I feel I master the flying part, but I need to understand more to fly online.

EDIT: I mostly fly the SU-27 Flanker.

As for me - it 's unreal to win in CR in Dogfight on F15... Constant lock breaking, No "X" usw...:( It's easier when you're in Su or Mig...

here's a short one.

the radar needs time to detect enemies at long range. for BVR, ask your AWACS for the heading for the enemies, and then use your radar. if you fly the F-15, the enemies will be displayed as rectangels and friendlies will be displayed as a circle. to lock a target, slide the two vertical bars over the target you want to lock, and press TAB (by default). to change the range, use 0 and + or + and \. (don't remember clearly) If you fly Su-27, Su-33 or MiG-29, the enemies are shown as triangles. Friendlies are displayed as a circle. You will notice a line. The line points in the direction the other plane is moving in. If there is a friendly AWACS flying out there, it will send its own picture on your radar, so you can be passive. This lets you also to find your targets more easily.

as for dogfight, it's almost impossible to use your own radar. If you fly Su's or MiG's and a friendly AWACS is flying, you can use the AWACS, cuz the AWACS sends its own radar picture to you.

hope that helped you somehow. i may have forgot something.

I don't swear, I don't smoke and I don't drink. Oh f**k I forgot my cigar at the pub...

Yeah, you forgot that in a dogfight you use your eyes, not the radar :) Once your see the guy, you can then use a radar auto mode once you get pointed at him.

I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda

For dogfights best use Vertical Scan mode (works up to 10km) or if you fly russian fighters, use HMTS mode, but yeah, you should get visual on the bandit in such situations.

Kuky, vertical scan in f-15 has even longer range, 10 nm!

It's pretty nice when flying around in the mountains (oh my radar just locked something :))

As for starting lockon online. Start with the mig-29, at least imo, this is the easiest plane to learn with.

S = SPARSE(m,n) abbreviates SPARSE([],[],[],m,n,0). This generates the ultimate sparse matrix, an m-by-n all zero matrix. - Matlab help on 'sparse'

didn't know that Yoda... thanks for the info
