gekoiq Posted June 14, 2019 Posted June 14, 2019 With the new patch we've received the BRU-55/A which allows the mounting of 2 smart weapons requiring data connections to the aircraft. I'm curious about and wondering if we'll get the ability to mix the ordnance on the BRU-55/A? Not sure if this is done IRL or not, but it seems like a useful feature ie: being able to carry an LMAV on one wing and 1x GBU-38 and 1x GBU-12 on BRU-55 on the other, with 2 wing bags and centerline LPOD Hard to find info on this, but I can't think of a logical reason it would not work (as long as the ordnance in question has provisions for the mechanical attachment), and I've found vague references to the BRU-57/A (essentially the same rack with USAF specific configuration from what I understand) being able to carry mixed ordnance. This would offer us even more mission flexibility than BRU-55 already offers when operating with realistic fuel loads and configurations.
Wizard_03 Posted June 14, 2019 Posted June 14, 2019 The MC doesn't support that capability (multiple weapon types on the same station), not sure if the rack itself physically does either but I wouldn't think so. Wouldn't be realistic or necessary: But This gives you the exact flexibility your wanting. :) DCS F/A-18C :sorcerer:
gekoiq Posted June 14, 2019 Author Posted June 14, 2019 heh Wags has already explicitly stated that we won't get LJDAM. If the F18's mission computers can't handle more than 1 type of ordnance per station, I would believe it though. Wonder if it's a lot/OFP version thing?
Wizard_03 Posted June 14, 2019 Posted June 14, 2019 I know, but I'm saying GBU-54s make the hypothetical ability to have different weapons on the same rack moot. They wouldn't have taken the time update the OFP to allow that even if it was physically possible on the rack because GBU-54s give you even more flexibility. DCS F/A-18C :sorcerer:

I don’t think any aircraft out there have the capability of holding different weapon types But... Not sure what capability the sim will get, but many aircraft have the capability of carrying the same weapon type, with different fuse type. I.E. JPF and DSU-33 on the same pylon.

I also thought about that, I very much hope we can select different fuze types on individual bombs and mix fuze types on pylons!
GunnerD Posted June 17, 2019 Posted June 17, 2019 In short, the weapons computers can't make any determinations of different weapons on the same multiple/triple ejector racks - it wasn't designed to do this. Reason 1: Different weapons use different interfaces from the ejector rack to the bomb rack, and there's only one connection on both assets. Reason 2: Different fuzing/fuzing requirements would make this hazardous as hell on the ordnance crew loading and inspecting the munitions. Reason 3: Firmware limitations in use on most mulitple/triple ejector racks don't know how to talk to more than one type of device at a time. It would be like getting a Spanish translator to translate Chinese and Italian simultaneously.
