Position of ACQ symbol for radar STT Lock

Without EXPAND radar mod, sometimes it is very difficult to lock proper target...hope we will soon get it.

But still, I think, it should work like one document descibes:

 

"...placing the center of the ACQ symbol over the contact you wish to lock but biased away from any undesired contact. The radar will attempt to lock the closest return to the center of the cursor position."

 

What is your experience and Sorted Lock technique?

It works exactly as it should for me. It may just be that you want to lock the further aircraft in which case you need to use another method.
